Questioning my hotel choice

I decided to stay at the Flamingo for five nights this August because I found what I thought was a deal for a deluxe room - it came with a sixth free night and an average room cost of about $55 a night, including a Saturday. Originally I really wanted to stay in a Go room... but I think I might be making a huge mistake from reading the reviews.

Question for anyone who has stayed there recently - How bad is the service and room cleanliness? Is it worth paying an extra $40 a night for a Go room? Or should I book elsewhere?

What attracted me to the Flamingo -- its central location on the Strip and its pool.

I have stayed at MGM, Treasure Island and Planet Hollywood and would prefer not to repeat those so I can experience a different hotel. Suggestions?

I used to stay at the Flamingo every trip, and usually in a Deluxe room (their standard one). I can%26#39;t imagine you%26#39;d have any problems with it. It doesn%26#39;t have the ';party'; vibe that some of your previous hotels have had, but it%26#39;s center-Strip and it%26#39;s a cheap room.

The Go rooms are significantly nicer, but they%26#39;re also a bit smaller since the bathroom is larger.

Since the trip isn%26#39;t until August, you might even want to go to another Harrahs property (I don%26#39;t know where you are in PA, but maybe you%26#39;re close to Atlantic City?) and play some video poker or slots for a little while. Do that, then log into your account at Harrahs site, and (at least mid-week) the rooms will probably be free or heavily discounted.

Overall, you%26#39;re staying in a really nice hotel for $55 a night, in the dead center of a Strip, and at a Monorail stop, potentially with a partial view of the Bellagio fountains if you get a high enough room. I don%26#39;t think you went wrong anywhere.

The majority of concerns about the Flamingo are overblown. It%26#39;s not a palace, not a dump.

A middle-of-the-road Vegas property with a GREAT pool area and a nearly-perfect location on the Strip.

Like all hotels, it may have some dingy or poorly-maintained rooms -- if you get one, ask for another. Don%26#39;t pay for a room you%26#39;re not pleased with.

I%26#39;ve stayed at the Flamingo 8 or 9 times, in both Deluxe and GO rooms. The only problem I%26#39;ve ever had was an uncompleted repair in a bathroom one time -- the towel bar from the shower was laying in pieces on the floor of the bathtub.

A quick call to the front desk, and the problem was fixed within the hour.

I%26#39;ve also stayed there, and Paul has it right; mid-priced nice but not super fancy hotel, great pool and location.

Thanks, you%26#39;ve reassured me. A dirty room and/or horrible service would ruin the stay for me. Clean and plain is fine.

We were there about 3 weeks ago. Our room was not the cleanest. It was an un-renovated room with dark blue carpeting. There was a line of dust all around the room. The furniture was showing signs of years of abuse. The dust vent in the bathroom was filthy.

That being said, the sheets were clean, the tub and toilet scrubbed, and we were only there for 2 nights, prepaid at $39/night. We probably could have asked for another room, but the lines were long at check in and we just decided to let it go.

The location is one of the best. We found the casino a little too loud, but I think it had a lot to do with the March Madness crowds.

I had a regular room booked for several months now. Price kept going down and I kept calling and getting the cheaper rate and always had someone nice on the phone, not implying that I was cheap when I called. I%26#39;m there for a week starting April 7th in a regular room for $425.10/week. Got an e-mail last night and just confirmed a Go Room for $20/night extra. Since I%26#39;m there a week and now going alone since getting dumped I thought I would treat myself! At least now after a very long travel day at least I will know that my room will/should be clean and new....and I love the idea of the remote curtains! How many times have I fought with sheers and heavy drapes and the pull cords in a hotel room. Yeah I know, but it%26#39;s the little luxuries that make it special.
