Mi Trip report

After a loverly drive up 50 I stopped at South Tahoe having a nice lunch at The Horizon. My first time %26amp; I was impressed. Good prime rib sandwich. I like the casino although at 2:00 PM on Friday it was empty.

I spent the night in Carson City something I had never done before. I stayed at the Carson Nugget%26#39;s motel The City Center for $36.50 including tax! I was a bit concerned about the low price but found it clean with spacious decent rooms. Cable TV on a 20'; screen %26amp; FREE WI FI. Excellent King bed %26amp; in-room coffee for the AM. After my large lunch I passed on dinner , gambling a bit losing $30 at blackjack.

Next AM up early %26amp; on to Virgina City. Had nor been since maybe 2000. Much the same %26amp; as the day went on a surprisingly large crowd was on the streets for so early in the year. Had a great breakfast but do not recall the name of the cafe. Bought a new belt %26amp; one of those fake newspaper for the grandson withhis name in the Headlines.

Arrived at Ascuaga%26#39;s Nugget about one after passing through downtown Reno. The wonderfully helpful front desk gave me my favorite corner room with windows on 2 sides, views on the Sierras, king bed, couch %26amp; best of all a Recliner. The perfect Bachelor%26#39;s (just for the weekend) pad! LOL

Very busy here %26amp; the pol just too crowd for this old guy. Gambled a bit losing another $20. Had Bouillabaisse at the Oyster Bar which was very good. Early to bed after a long walking day.

Today spent about 4 hours at the pool now that the Saturday family crowded was checking out. Lunch at the pool. Gambled some more now up about $55 for the trip. I intended to eat Crab legs at the Oyster Bar but walking by the Buffet noted that it was seafood night for $19.95 %26amp; featured Crab Legs. That%26#39;s $5 less than the Oyster Bar%26#39;s crab. I seldom eat Buffets but this was Delicious! Crab Legs, Huge peel your own shrimp, Salmon, breaded shrimp, Maryland crab plus salad, potatoes, rolls, ice tea, dessert %26amp; coffee. Not a bad item in the lot. Lots other items I did not try.

So no Breakfast tomorrow but several hours at the pool. More later.

Mi Trip report

Thanks for your trip report, Peddler. I stayed at GSR Wednesday and Thursday nights. When I woke up to a gloomy Thursday, I thought of your comments about the pool at the Nugget. I%26#39;ll have to stay there and give that pool area a try. I think of it as a Rib Cook-Off destination, but don%26#39;t stay there otherwise. Your report about the pool and the seafood will change that!

Mi Trip report

peddler: Man, you must like the pool...every weather report i have seen has Reno in the 50%26#39;s and low 60%26#39;s....Spent last week in Vegas and it wasn%26#39;t even close to pool weather there...

jungle-

Indoor pools make that possible! :)

Yes the Pool is huge %26amp; indoors. With very high ceilings none of that ';Y'; feeling.

My last full day again AM at the pool, then Lunch at Gabe%26#39;s deli in the sport book.

Got the car out driving by the new Baseball Park that is almost finished. Also the new gigantic Scheels store with the indoor Ferris wheel.

Last Night dinner was again at Johns Oyster Bar. Oysters on the half shell, clam chowder %26amp; a shrimp cocktail after the ';gorge'; the night before..

Up early needing to have a billing error corrected. As normal no problem it being straighten out instantly. I find the staff at the Nugget the best! I got an early check-in plus my very favorite room which is a corner one in the West tower.

This morning after checking out I finally got to Peg%26#39;s Incredible Ham %26amp; Eggs. I elected for the 1/2 ham %26amp; eggs, a wise decision. The Half order is HUGE! About a # of ham, 2 eggs, hash browns %26amp; unique Wheat/Sourdough toast. With Coffee plus great service $11.81

PS Ended up the trip Up $115 with some late night Blackjack.

Thanks so much, peddler, for a comprehensive and fun to read TR!

With all of your trips to the Nugget have you ever eaten at Trader Dick%26#39;s? I%26#39;ve looked at the menu a few times and thought it looked good but have never gone.

A number of years ago (maybe 12 to 15) but it%26#39;s really not my type of food. We often listen to the music in that bar however.

I like Orozko a lot for a romantic dinner with excellent food or that lounge for coffee/dessert while listening to the music.

Love The Oyster Bar but still think The Atlantis one spanning Virgina street is slightly better.

I as I reported was very impressed with the Seafood Buffet Sunday night. Every thing I tried was fresh %26amp; well prepared. Far better than the average buffet fare.

How is the GSR? It%26#39;s been at least 10 years since I%26#39;ve stayed there. Remember seeing Sinatra there many eons ago.

Re: Trader Dicks

I have enjoyed a meal at TDs a few times. I can tell you that it is no Trader Vics, but it is a ton of food for the price. The tropical drinks were fun and the decor a riot. Service has always been excellent. I like the dark tiki vibe and have always had fun. However, the food (while plentiful) is not nearly as good as other places, but some items work better than others. However, I thought it was fun and have visited twice since my first visit.

Yo!

The GSR is great, especially the Summit. It%26#39;s changed a lot since you%26#39;ve been there. It;s elegant and understated. A recent poster compared the common area to a bank lobby, saying it%26#39;s for the older, more conservative traveler. Not sure when I got either old or conservative, but guess it%26#39;s happened.*sigh*

I appreciate the details of your reports. I%26#39;ve stayed at the Nugget maybe ten times. I%26#39;ve never been to the pool and I%26#39;ve never eaten at the seafood buffet. An indoor pool would be great mid-winter when it%26#39;s dumping snow in Truckee. Not as great as a trip to Puerto Vallarta....One month from today, I%26#39;ll have a cold one at Chez Elena and think kind thought of you, Peddler.
