Lounge/free/inexpensive shows

What are some of your favorite lounge/free acts and where are the preforming 5/10-5/18. A few years ago we saw a great Prince tribute band I think they were at the Monte Carlo. Also The Fab 4 was a good show for like $5 or $10. We will have a car so can travel to off Strip places.

Lounge/free/inexpensive shows

If you want classic-type Vegas lounge acts like singers, instrumental combos, comedians, for free, try the Bootlegger Bistro, south on LV Blvd after the outlet malls. They have a show every night at 10:00 for no charge other than what you want to eat or drink. Decent Italian food, very much a locals place. It would appeal to an older crowd; my mother (in her 70s) loved it!

Try Big Elvis at Bills

Big Elvis is always fun! We like classic rock. Off subject are The Jersey Boys still playing?

Yes Jersey Boys is still there.

Keep in mind that Big Elvis only performs during the week and not on weekends.

When I went in December, a salsa orchestra played and there was dancing all night long at South Point - for only $5. A little after the doors open, there%26#39;s a complimentary salsa lesson. They have other $5 entertainment during the week: evenhttp://www.southpointcasino.com/entertainment/weekly.phpts

Also at SP, from Sunday-Thursday, midnight until I forget when, they have $1 bowling.

Some say Mac King is good, but I haven%26#39;t seen it yet.

Have a great trip!

  • Favorite Drinks while playing video poker

When I%26#39;m in Vegas I love to sit at the bar and order drinks while playing video poker. It%26#39;s very relaxing, and I don%26#39;t feel bad about losing 25 cents a hand. A lot of times I end up winning a bit.

What are some of your favorite drinks to order?

I usually like to order Tom Collins or vodka tonic. Or if I want beer I usually go with the domestics. I want to know some of the more popular drinks that people order and get comped. I also want to know what drinks girls usually order. My gf usually just gets a margarita or corona.

    Thanks for the help.

Favorite Drinks while playing video poker

It depends on the time of day. In the morning, I like bailey%26#39;s and coffee; in the afternoon, I like a baybreeze or a Smirnoff Ice and in the evening, I like a glass of wine. My husband drinks captian morgan and coke, gin and tonic or Sam Adams.

If you do a search on this subject, I%26#39;m sure you will find a lot of drink ideas.

    Allegiant Air seating

Five of us are flying Allegiant to Vegas in August. We are all on the same itinerary. Is the airline pretty good about seating us together or should we pay extra for seating assignments. Thank you.

    Allegiant Air seating

If you arrrive early you *should* be able to sit together, but the only way to guarantee it is to pay the extra fee. But it%26#39;s a 1st come 1st serve basis for everyone else.

    Allegiant Air seating

I think most people don%26#39;t pay the extra fee for seating. Like Pookie said, get there early and they do try to keep you together. If not, it%26#39;s only a couple of hours.

I%26#39;ve never paid for a seat and our groups have always sat together. I%26#39;m hoping the flights go down so I can take my son this summer. Gotta love $75 round trip.

Haven%26#39;t paid of my seat either and always sit with DH. Dh went recently with five guys and was sat together on the way there but even when arriving two-three hours early on the return they were split. I guess it just depends but if there is more than two you will at least sit with one person from your party.

    Dee

We don%26#39;t pay the extra fee. The flight is so short because it%26#39;s direct, who cares. (but we do get there early too)

    Marirage can be murder

Has anyone seen this show at the Four Queens. We would like to have a birthday party at the show. What about the food?

    Marirage can be murder

I studied the menu outside and thought it looked pretty boring so we never went- but another poster did go and enjoyed the play more than the food. Here%26#39;s our post from a week or so ago

    …tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g45963-i10-k26493…

    I%26#39;m glad I didn%26#39;t bother personally

    Marirage can be murder

No but I am intrigued by a marirage.

We say the show last week. The dinner was not great, but the show was very funny. We had a great time.

The show takes place in the Canyon venue at the Fitz downtown. The hostess plays emcee and was fantastic at remembering people at tables, names, occupations, etc.

It%26#39;s a murder mystery, where you really need to pay attention to what%26#39;s going on and take notes, but even if you don%26#39;t it%26#39;s still a lot of fun.

My husband guessed the murderer (who was sitting at our table). Apparently, I wasn%26#39;t paying enough attention because I missed the clues.

All in all a great time. Of course, the food was not good. The meat was OK, but veggies cold and potato rock hard. We got our tickets at the tix 4 tonight booth at 4 Queens - paid $41 each. For that price I thought the show was well worth it.

No Vegas theme to it, but overall a lot of fun and entertainment for the $$. Not sure I would go for the VIP package, unless you really want a T shirt.

Correction - we ';saw'; the show and it was at the Canyon venue at 4 Queens...gotta stop posting after a couple glasses of wine.

    Hugh Hefner's B-day

    Hey all,

Hugh Hefner%26#39;s B-day weekend is at the Playboy Club coming up soon and I need to know how to get admission into this. Can you buy them in advance? Or do you buy them at the door? Please give me some advice/tips to do so.

    Thanks a ton!

    Hugh Hefner's B-day

When is his bday? Also will he be in Vegas or his the Playboy club just having a party? (This may seem like a stupid question but I thought he does not travel much and I did not know if he would be in Vegas for his bday)

    Hugh Hefner's B-day

Too bad Holly, Bridget and Kendra are gone. They were way more interesting than Hugh.

I thought everday was Heff%26#39;s birthday!!!!

  • 3 days in vegas

i will be in vegas for training next week (Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues). Since the training will be at the university, I am staying near there. My question is: since I%26#39;m limited on time (arrive late Sat. night and will be in training all day Mon/Tues) and have never been to vegas; what are some of the ';must do'; things I should do given time constraints? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

    3 days in vegas

If you%26#39;ve never been, you%26#39;ll probably want to tour the strip. There is lots to do and see in Vegas, but my suggestion is just wandering through the hotels, touring around and you%26#39;ll come across things you want to do or see. Glad some drinks and tour around.

    3 days in vegas

Couldnt%26#39; agree more. Get some comfortable shoes and be ready for lots of walking. I wouldn%26#39;t make any plans for a first trip. Soak it in and then you%26#39;ll know what you want to plan for on your next visit.

marcedays, there really are no ';must dos'; - everyone%26#39;s interests are different and there is something for everyone. Keep in mind Vegas is a 24 hour town so there is plenty to do at night when you are not at work.

As others have said, you need to get yourself to the Strip and just explore. Here are a few very basic suggestions:

    * Stop by Bellagio in the afternoon or evening and watch the free fountain show.

    * Do some gambling. Even if you don%26#39;t have much to spend, play a slot machine or try a table game like blackjack.

    * Try a buffet - the variety of foods available will amaze you.

    * See a show - You can get same-day discount tickets to a wide variety of shows at the discount ticket booths on the Strip.

    * Catch a view. There are a number of vantage points where you can get a great view of the Strip from high up, whether it%26#39;s the Eiffel Tower, Stratosphere, or a nightclub such as Mix, Ghostbar, or VooDoo Lounge. (VooDoo Lounge offers free admission before 8 PM and before 10 PM with a free pass you can print off their website.)

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!

  • Good shopping away from the strip?

Calling all bargain shoppers. I have been to Las Vegas many a time but have never ventured away from the strip. Shops at Caesers are very expensive and high end as are most on the strip. Where and how far do I have to go for the ';good'; shopping, something like a Loehmann%26#39;s, Neiman%26#39;s Last Call, Off Fifth, etc.? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Good shopping away from the strip?

The Rack, the Nordstroms outlet, is really good. It is in Silverado Ranch. Take LV blvd. south go left and Silverado/ at the South point. All the way down 5 miles in the Target Center on your right.

5th Off is on LV Blvd South in the outlet mall. Just next to it is an SUPER outlet store that has all designer things.

Good shopping away from the strip?

The outlet mall at the south of the strip, Las Vegas Blvd and Warm Springs Road, great shopping, and the outlet malls at stateline, Primm Nevada are also excellent. The trip from the strip to stateline, is about 30-40 miles...you would need a car or find out if a shuttle runs there.

I%26#39;ve answered the call you have requested. lol

As Norgetroll said Nordstroms Rack and Off 5th are the best for DEEP discounts on higher-quality clothes. NM Last Call is 45 minutes outside of Vegas but NR and Off 5th are in Vegas. The clearance racks at these stores are where you can often get 80% to 90% off the original price. Off 5th has the best sales on weekends.

Currently there is not a Loehmanns in or around the Las Vegas area.

Thanks so much everyone. Great suggestions and it all sounds easy to get to. We will be staying at Bellagio. Does anyone know if they have any shopping shuttles?

The Chelsea Premium Outlets near downtown have designer stores (St. John, Theory, Burberry) as well as mid-range (Polo Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic). They have good discounts (you can print off coupons on the website, or get the coupon book at the Mall Office when you arrive). I am a serious shopper, but this mall is huge and outdoor and I usually spend 2 days there each trip to get through it all. Happy Spending!

I don%26#39;t think they have shopping shuttles except fot the NM Last Call store which is 45 minutes outside of Las Vegas in Primm, Nevada.

There are no shuttles to the two outlet centers in Vegas. You will have take a bus or a cab if you don%26#39;t have a car.

    something different

    Visiting Vegas in April

We have spent plenty of time on the strip, saw the free stuff offered at most casinos, have done downtown--Fremont Experience. Enjoyed all these places. Now, I%26#39;d like to do something different. Don%26#39;t want to spend a lot of money. Just looking to spend an evening and a day after back from Grand Canyon trip, doing something different in Vegas.

I love casinos, we love the outdoor, we don%26#39;t like fancy, we will have a car, not big drinkers..any ideas?

    something different

Why don%26#39;t you try a short stay off-strip. You could try the new M resort, or maybe South Point.

    something different

How about a great show experience, you mentioned not too much money but if you look you might find some great deal.

    Try www.smartervegas.com

Have you done Valley of Fire? My husband and I enjoyed that immensely.

You could also try Green Valley Ranch or Red Rock Casino...they%26#39;re beautiful off strip resorts

You could go to the Springs Preserve.

If you have never been to Valley of Fire- It is a good opportunity to do that. You can combine it with a paddle boat cruise on Lake Mead. A lot of people combine it with a trip to Hoover Dam.

    hello

is it easy lke voodoo lounge to get free passes to plaboyclub/ghostbar ?? we are staying at the palms place, can you get from them ?

    passes to plaboyclub/ghostbar

I would LOVE to get a few free passes into the Playboy Club. Could you please help anderssvensson and I out on that? What night would be better to go to get the free passes, Friday or Saturday? And what time is good to go on those days to beat the lines?

    passes to plaboyclub/ghostbar

    bump

I have been interested in checking out the ghostbar as well. I would hate to pay a full on $20 cover for a 30 minute stop. I just want to buy a few drinks, check out the view..take a few pics and leave. This isn%26#39;t exactly a party/dance club. Just a chill lounge.

Anyone with pass/guestlist info, please post.

    Thanks!

Yes, please post any guestlist/pass info for the playboy club. Is there a certain time on Friday or Saturday to go that would be best?

    Thanks!

I know I already said it on another post, but check out ebay.

Line pass?? still mean that you have to pay ? or what is line pass

A line pass will get you past the line-up. You will still have to pay.

What is the cover charge for guys/gals? And does it change depending on the time of day you come? Or can you simply avoid the charge if you come early?

    Thanks!

    Serendipity 3 at Caesars

It seems that New York%26#39;s Serendipity is opening a branch at Caesars Palace in April. See Caesars%26#39; web site at caesarspalace.com/casinos/caesars-palace/res… .

Has anyone seen the area where it will open. Any New Yorkers care to chime in with opinions about the original?

    Serendipity 3 at Caesars

I think this is great fun news. Over on the New York board it seems to be a place that people love to hate - too kitschy, too overexposed, don%26#39;t like the wait, closed down for a while by the health dept, etc., etc. - but I think it would be great fun to go to one in Caesars. I know most hotels have at least one NY based restaurant, but Caesars seems to be turning into New York West!

    Serendipity 3 at Caesars

I live in NYC and yes of course I%26#39;ve been to Serendipity 3...it seems natural that when I%26#39;m Christmas shopping at Bloomies I need to go to Serendipity 3 for some frozen hot chocolate. I find it interesting that so many NY restaurants are opening in Vegas. Caesers is definitely NY West. It doesn%26#39;t annoy me as much as the idea of the Plaza opening across from the Wynn. That actually turned my stomach because there is only one Plaza hotel.

They already have the signs up for it. It%26#39;s in that outside space right next to the Strip. Where the pedestrian walkway from Bellagio drops you. Hard to describe and I can%26#39;t remember what it used to be called.

It has to be better than the New York one, although if you are in New York I guess you have to try it. Would definitely go to the one in LV. The one in New York is not to clean, but everyone hopes to see a celebrity there.

Thanx for the info. I have never been to one of these restaurants and will definitely try it. I am staying at Caesars too next month. It is in that open area between the hotel and the steps leading up to the strip?

I hope its larger than the one here. I love going there.

Can%26#39;t wait to get my Frozen Hot Chocolate. Been to NYC a few times and have never made it to Serendipity, will definitely be going to the LV version.

Thanks for posting, I had no idea.

    Sheila

Will Serendipity3 occupy the space where the current Spanish Steps drink kiosk is now located?

Yes, it%26#39;s located right by the bridge to cross over Flamingo to the Bellagio. Saw them putting the awnings up last week!

That is good news. I wouldn%26#39;t go to Serendipity 3 while in NYC a few months ago, because of the negative Forum posts - but maybe I%26#39;ll give this one a try.

    weather

What is the weather like in October? Are the hotel pools still open in October?

    weather

The weather in October is as good as it gets. Obviously hotter on the 1st than on the 30th. But most of the month it will be mid-80%26#39;s during the day and cool off at night.

All of the hotels will stil have pools open, but a few of the larger ones will not have ALL their pools in use. Most notably is MGM, which does not have the lazy river open. So we go elsewhere in October.

    weather

October is a really good time to go ';weather-wise';... it%26#39;s also one of the most expensive months for hotel rates

I watched it snow (flurries) at a UNLV football game in Oct, so the weather could be a little of everything. Obviously that weather wasnt the norm. Best to look at the daily averages for average temps.

Average high temps- 88(beginning of October)/73 (end of October).

Good Beer is correct. Unless you are going in the summer (boiling hot) nothing is guaranteed when dealing with Vegas weather. In the middle of October last year the high temp was 60.

Check a weather site just before leaving. Chances you will have great weather but it is always possible to hit a cool spell (the lows can sometimes be in the 30s rather than the average low-50 to low 60s.

This was DH%26#39;s and my 7th annual trip to Vegas to celebrate our anniversary. We usually go 3 rd week in March as we were married there on March 24 th 2004.

    Wiil post in reply.....

    Tr- 3/23-3/30 Rio

Day 1, up at 2 am to get ready, drop car off at car place, take shuttle to airport, have some coffee and wait about 10 mins. to board.

Flew with Delta this time as they had better prices than Southwest!!

Flight was full, had a stopover in Cinncinati, some got off, more came on.

We walked around the airport for a little while, Dh collects shot glasses, and wanted one from Ohio.

Got back on and arrived in Vegas 10 mins. early!10:23 am pst.

Waited and waited and waited for luggage, and the airport wasnt even that crowded!!

Finally get it and schlep bags to car rental shuttle, it was there, so didnt have to wait! Rented from Avis this time as they had better prices than Dollar, through Delta.com. Got a Ford Focus, a really strange gold color, oh well it fit all the luggage and was good on gas.

    Tr- 3/23-3/30 Rio

Great another Rio trip report!! I%26#39;m staying there in 17 days! Looking forward to it.

Day 1 cont. Get car and I%26#39;m starving , its about 11:30 am ( 2: 30) our time so I need food now!!

Go to In N Out, it was packed, I never saw it so full, but the line went pretty quick, 2 cheeseburgers animal style 2 fries and 2 drinks, that cured my hunger, YUMMY !!

So on to Rio to check in. Its about 1:00 so we get to the check in line and theres about 6 people ahead of us, no biggie, the line went fast, asked nicely for an upgrade, no such luck, got Ipenema Tower room

1061,your standard Rio suite, no view, clean and it served its purpose, to sleep and shower in.

The plus was Starbucks was right off the elevator...

So we unpack, get organized and get out of the room as quick as possible, were in Vegas!!!

Off to Palazzo to pick up tix to Jersey Boys on our anniv. night.

I like Palazzo, so we get players cards, Love the chains with the P on them( our last name starts with P)we have quite a few now, I use them for our local casinos players cards and everyone asks where i got it.So we played there on some slots no big wins ,had fun anyway, had a couple cocktails and started to get hungry again.

We head back to Rio to do the buffet, well Im in line and this Asian lady asks me if I want to eat here??? I say yes, she says I will give you free??? she says follow me?? So she takes my hand and we enter the Diamond 7 stars VIP buffet area, and she goes up to the cashier and says she wants to pay for us!!!Well not really pay but she has some free and doesnt want to waste them, so We thanked her so many times, I couldnt beleive it, so we get seated in the Vip buffet area, probably the only time I will get to sit there!!That was such a random act of kindness I will never forget!!!

So the buffet was ok, not great, had some cold shrimp, cant remember what else...sorry.

After the meal, walked around some, played some random slots , won a little on Star Trek, and was starting to feel the jeg lag, so off to bed for us, was about 10 pm, up almost 23 hours...goodnight!

Congrats on the RAOK! Here I thought there is no good left in people.

That was a very nice thing for the 7star lady to do.

I wasn%26#39;t that impressed with the buffet at the RIO either.

Waiting to hear more...hope you had some luck.

    Day 2 Anniversary Day

Up at 7;30 relax in bed, order room service to surprise DH.

Breakfast was really good, fresh and hot delivered quickly.

Showered and dressed, had another surprise for Dh, not yet though, had to find Albertson%26#39;s for supplies.

Well the one on Spring Mtn. closed, so on to W. Flamingo one, didnt realise how far on Flamingo it was.

Got our water, snacks, pepsi for DH, has to have it!!

and a foam cooler and some ice.

Now on to DH%26#39;s surprise...Go Kart racing!!

Went to Pole Position Raceway, right across the street from the Palm%26#39;s.

It was $120. for 2 races ea. plus a T-shirt ea.

Well im kinda claustraphobic, not to bad really, but the helmet being so tight fitted to my head was VERY uncomfortable....The guy was really nice and gave me a looser one but it didnt help much, DH pleaded with me to just try to do 1 race, which i made it through, but that was it, I let Dh do the rest. It was a blast...really fun and fast, they give you your times printed out to keep and what you placed in your race, very well organized. I was pleased and DH loved it!!

Next on to Palm%26#39;s for a late lunch at Gardunos, I had a LVA MR coupon, it was good Mexican food for the price 50% off the total bill, with coupon.

Got brave and stuck a $20 into a $5. slot and out came $225. YES!!I think it was a sizle 7 machine.

Back to Rio to get ready for our Jersey Boys show.

Will continue soon, Survivor is on!! Sorry !!

So tonight is dress up night, back to Rio shower change and get to Palazzo a early, sit at a slot have a cocktail then head towards the line for the show; Jersey Boys.

    Had pretty good seats, section 2 row f seats 5 %26amp; 6.

No obstructions, great view, so close you could see spit from the mouths of the singers..LOL.

Jersey Boys was fantastic...I mean we really really loved it!

GO see it. Really, good story, kinda sad, great singing, go see it!!!

After Jersey Boys ,wanted to check out the new Encore, I love butterflies and there were lots.

Beautiful Place inside and outside, love the mosaic tile floors, butterflies again, the red chandalier lights were weird, someone on here said they look like crabs hanging..LOL..

So we played here a little, walked the grounds , walked through Wynn, getting tired now, wearing heals, not good, so we head out to drive the strip.

What the H#ll do we see in the sky???

Its a big white blimp, Huge!!

Its from the new ';M'; resort. Nice.So head back to Rio

play a little here, won a little on a .01 machine, mystical Lamp i think, got the bonus twice, cashed out and went night night!!!

Will continue day 3 soon, have to pick DD up from work.

    Great TR!

    Look forward to hearing more...

Great TR so far and happy 5th anniversary.

Happy Anniversary! Such an imaginative gift to your wife.

Cheapest tickets direct from Mirage were around $68 inclusive when I went 2 weeks ago. View is ok from back row and there are a couple of large screens either side of the stage ! He does not look like a dot on the horizon here, unlike some theatres in town where you are well back from the stage.

Great Show, hope you enjoy it !

Thanks for this link - we are reallly looking forward to seeing himon our next trip! actually he%26#39;s part of the reason for it.

We were there March 12th. We got seats the same day of the show in the very back row for $45.00 each. It really isn%26#39;t that important to be right up next to the stage for his show. We could see everything fine from our seats. We thought his show was hilarious, husband had never heard of him when we went is now recommending the show to everyone!!!

    supercross event

I was wondering if anyone is going in May for the supercross event? Also, if anyone that has been to it can give me advice since I am planing to go with my hubby.

    supercross event

hi, were going to the supercross in may, weve been 3 times in the past 2005, 2006 and 2007.

its about an hours local bus ride away from the strip, on tropicana ave?, this will cost about 2 dollars ish. BUT this bus wont take you directly to sam boyd stadium, itll drop you off at the end of this road and then youll need to get a connecting bus, but we got a taxi from this point which cost about $8.

If you were to get a taxi from MGM/tropicana/NYNY to sam boyd stadium, it would cost $30, but this is fast, only taking around 10 mins.

after the final race has finished, there are loads of coaches put on by MGM grand that pick you up from infront of the stadium and drop you off at the rear of the MGM hotel, this will cost about $5 each. you will have to buy these tickets from the ticket booth at the main entrance at about 9pm ish.

dont hang around after the race has finished as nearly everyone is trying to get of the carpark and the ques for the coaches are huge.

    hope this helps

    supercross event

when is the supercross and where do you stay?

Thanks for your inpute, we actually are planning to rent a car, we are staying at Paris so we though it was easier to just rent a car. The event is May 2 at Sam Boyd Stadium, i have had trouble finding great tickets, Do you know where I can buy good seats for this event?

unlv tickets for the best tickets..

just had the best seats in the stadium!! $62 .

id recommend getting seats from areas 132 to 124.

as you will be able to get out of the stadium quicker, and the sun goes down behind you so its not directly in your eyes whilst trying to watch the races.

We are going with our kids, but we get to sit in the press box seating since my BIL is the one who builds the tracks. They are renting a car since he has to go back and forth so many times to build, but we will probably just take the bus or cab it down.

Hope you have a great time. Was just there in Oct. for the US Open of Supercross.

Have not been to the May race at Boyd, but plan for warm temps and a lot of water, per friends who have gone.

This year, the May race should be good, as the points race seems close. I am jealous. We flirted with the idea of going, just can%26#39;t swing it financially, as our son raced in Vegas @ MGM in Oct as well at the Arenacross World Finals.

i%26#39;m heading down for it. the bus back from the stadiums are 10 not 5 and dont linger too long after the race or you will be in line for an hour to get on. last year they had a bus that ran from planet hollywood to the staduim every few hours. check sxgp.com as the race gets closer and they will post the bus schedule to the stadium if they do them this year again.

In N Out Burger or Fatburger?

I%26#39;m coming to town at the end of April so I%26#39;m trying to do a little bit of planning. I want to know which burger is best? In N Out Burger or Fat Burger? I know both are strictly west coast but I have heard good things about both:-) I love cheeseburgers and fries!!

In N Out Burger or Fatburger?

Having only tried %26amp; very much enjoyed In-N-Out while in Vegas, my vote goes to them. It was delicious- everything I had anticipated after reading about them for years...

Why not try both, if you love burgers so much? Lunch at each one on different days of your trip?

FYI, if you like walking %26amp; are stying on the strip, you can actually walk to the In-N-Out located @ Tropicana %26amp; Dean Martin Dr. From the intersection of the Strip %26amp; Tropicana walk west on Tropicana, staying on the south side of the street. It takes about 12 or 13 minutes, depending on your speed. You%26#39;ll take a pedestrian underpass under Hwy.15 (safe during daytime, I%26#39;d be leery at night, as there are homeless people around the underpass). Continue walking to first intersection %26amp; you%26#39;ll see the In-N-Out at the northeast corner. Do use the pedestrian crossing lights as the intersection is very busy (it%26#39;s an on-ramp to Hwy.15).

In N Out Burger or Fatburger?

Ive tried both and I have to vote In N Out. Fatburger is also much more expensive, but both are good if you have time try both. I beleive there is a Fatburger on the strip, but for the life of me cannot remember where. The above directions for In N Out are correct (the underpass is on the excalibur side of the street)

    reed

    neither

although both have devotees - there are so many threads on this subject here it would take you hours to read them - do a search.

it%26#39;s a fast food hamburger - nothing special, neither worth making a special trip. many compare In N Out to Wendy%26#39;s.

some swear they are the best. doesn%26#39;t cost much to find out - try them both!

For the burger: In N Out ...

For convenience (right on the strip): FatBurger

    We tried both

Fatburger was bleckkkk...didn%26#39;t like any of it, the burger, fries (tried both kinds), and the shake. We won%26#39;t be back.

We liked In N Out%26#39;s....really liked the burger and fries ( had them both animal style....YUMMM). We both had the napoleon shake and didn%26#39;t care for that at all. It is a fast food place and very cheap. We happen to like it....so we go.

In and Out Burger. They use fresh meat and I think that makes the difference. Be sure to look at their not-so-secret-menu. Someone posted this so you know what the not-so-secret-menu is all about. Many people like it animal style.

    www.badmouth.net/in-n-outs-secret-menu/

I haven%26#39;t been to In and Out although I would like to try it.

Fatburger is pretty good, not amazing. It is fast food. Fatburger is not strictly west coast though. I live in NY and I%26#39;ve been to them here.

This is a tough call. I%26#39;ve only had Fatburger once and it was inside Harrahs Lake Tahoe. A Fat Deal combo with a shake instead of a soda ran me $13 and change. If the Vegas prices are like this, In-N-Out would be a better value. I like the In-N-Out style better.

For pure volume, Fuddruckers should be mentioned. Their 2/3 lb burgers hit the spot, but I wouldn%26#39;t plan on doing much walking afterwards. There is one inside The Orleans food court.

    Vegas for Supercross

Anyone going and where are you staying? We have not booked hotel yet looking at the Mirage. Kay

    Vegas for Supercross

We are going to Vegas in 2 weeks, but thinking of going back for Supercross - haven%26#39;t decided where to stay - of course Sat night is expensive everywhere....

Might wait till we get back and see if some offers come through after this trip.

    Vegas for Supercross

I saw that the least expensive tickets were $85 for the event, YIKES!

My husband wants to go as we will already be in town for a conference but those ticket prices are so high.

I think the tickets are just a little more than the regular supercross races. We used to go over to Seattle every year to see that one. I figure it%26#39;s the same cost as a show.

We%26#39;ll be in Vegas for the mini moto supercross the same weekend, so we%26#39;ll be staying at the Orleans. We haven%26#39;t decided if we%26#39;re going to the real supercross yet. We went last year and the race was awesome, but we waited almost an hour and a half for the shuttle after the race, so we%26#39;ll have to figure something else out if we go this year.

Well I booked our room at the Mirage. Now the search is on for tickets.

i will be their. go villipoto. prolly stay at mgm or the mirage. the shuttles are horrible, last year are driver took 2 hours to get back to planet hollywood. could of walked their faster.

Looking for the best place to stay too.

  • Where to get a Cheap Simple Men's Haircut on the Strip ?

I%26#39;m going to be in need on a haircut when i arrive in Vegas tommorrow

No fancy styling needed, just a simple cut and i mean very simple.

Where can i get this done ?

Where to get a Cheap Simple Men's Haircut on the Strip ?

';On the Strip'; isn%26#39;t going to be easy. Top end upscale men%26#39;s grooming is what generally goes on there and you%26#39;ll struggle to find a place that fits what you%26#39;re looking for. I suspect you%26#39;ll have to look further afield.

One of the LV locals may have ideas. Also, this is the sort of question that hotel concierges get paid to know the answer to.... :-)

Where to get a Cheap Simple Men's Haircut on the Strip ?

I don%26#39;t think you are going to find any cheap haircuts on the strip. Anything in a hotel on the strip will probably cost a pretty penny-no matter how simple the haircut.

Hubby had his hair cut at the salon in the Luxor once...I think it was about $30= tax and tip. Is that in your price range? He was happy...basic businessmans cut.

    shirl%26#39;

I say get hubby to get his hair cut at home if he is looking for a cheap hair cut.

Anything upto 50-60 dollars is fine given it%26#39;s a one off

    Cheers

There is a Regis hair salon at the Fashion Show Mall.

    (702) 733-1400

I am sure they will have the best price for a simple men%26#39;s haircut on the strip. You could also try one of the big department stores there as they oftern have a salon and probably less $ than the hotel salons.

I agree with Pattie .. if you knew you were needing a hair cut and worried about the price then why not get it cut before arriving in Vegas ?

Whooaahh $50-$60 for a simple haircut ??? maybe i should move to Las Vegas and start cutting hair

You can get a quick haircut at any BIG WHEEL or 6/5 Blackjack table.....

If you have access to car, drive 10-15 minutes on Spring Mountain Rd to Chinatown, hair salon there charged you less than $20 for simple hair cut and they are marvelous.

Casino Rate Through Host is Higher Than Promotional Rate?

I booked two rooms at the Wynn for an upcoming stay. The Host I went through was generous enough to bring me in for 4 comped nights. However, he suggested booking the second room through him at casino rate. I did mention to him that I have a promotional code that was lower price than the casino rate, but he just said well you are getting 4 comped nights for free. I%26#39;ve only stayed there once so I%26#39;m not yet established there so I%26#39;m just thinking of letting it go and hopefully the second room will end up getting comped as well based on my play. But still, I don%26#39;t like having a high room rate up front. Any advice?

Casino Rate Through Host is Higher Than Promotional Rate?

Goosey, that attitude from the host does not sit well with me - as if to say ';well I am giving one free room so I can jack you on room 2'; I think that is bogus in my book and I would use the promo rate. If they then take away your comped nights b.c you went with the promo rate, that is really BS.... let us know what you end up doing, very odd though!

Casino Rate Through Host is Higher Than Promotional Rate?

Ya. That attitude made me think that I might be better off looking for a better host the next time I%26#39;m there. We corresponded over email a few times before I finally called him. And when I called him, he didn%26#39;t really remember who I was.

I do think that he was generous in giving me those comped nights in the first place. And I actually was planning to book my second room through reservations except for the fact he suggested booking the second room for me (which I believe is a more convenient process). I don%26#39;t want to rub my host the wrong way though so I%26#39;m planning to just stick with the reservations. I only need the second room for half of my stay. I was originally planning to just keep two rooms, but now I think I%26#39;m going to fit 3 adults into one room once my dad leaves (my dad is leaving early).

I don%26#39;t have any experience with the Wynn. but a promotional rate being lower than ';casino rate'; is very common in the current economic climate. In fact at MGMMIrage properties, I%26#39;ve found that often ';casino rate'; is a bad deal and here%26#39;s why: If you get ';casino rate';, they will use your ';comps'; first to cover the difference between ';rack'; rate and casino rate. Since the rack rate is often very high (very few actually pay it), you%26#39;re better off using the promo because you have a better chance of getting room charges or food wiped off of your bill before checking out because the ';comp spread'; is much lower (if that makes any sense lol).

happened to me in Sept at PH but my Host took care of it and gave me the lower rate.

Given your limited established play level, you may have been getting more than you deserve to begin with. What do you play and at what bet / time level? How much was the difference between promo rate and what you were quoted? It may be you were way ahead and the host understandably was taken aback by your want more attitude. If you bet yellow or even purple chips for hours a day, then your point is well taken.

I say cancel the 2nd room and reserve it through the

reservations using the promo rate. Ask the rservationist to connect the 2nd room to yours. Tell them you are traveling with your father and need a room next door or very close to his. Forget your host for room two.

Then I wouldn%26#39;t ask to have the two reservations connected, the host could probably see that. Just cancel the first one through your host, say whoever was going to be in the second room decided not to come. THEN book that room at the promo rate, but in the name and credit card of whoever is actually going to be staying there.

As mentioned, I do indeed think I have gotten more than I deserve (I got the comp with the expectation that I will play like I did last time). So I%26#39;m leaning towards just sticking to the reservation. The casino rate is about $60 more a night than the promotional rate. And instead of keeping 2 rooms, I will end up cancelling one of the rooms and fit 3 adults into one room. Still, I%26#39;m grateful for being brought in on comp as it still will work out to be cheaper than booking 2 rooms at promotional rate.

I am little bit afraid to cancel my reservation on the 2nd room and then book through reservations. A problem with cancelling my 2nd room reservation and having my dad book the 2nd room is that there will be no chance I can get that room comped based on my play (my dad doesn%26#39;t really gamble). It%26#39;s slightly inconvenient, but I also think I%26#39;m getting a decent deal overall.

I booked 2 rooms with my host for this May, the first room is comped and the second is a very very low rate. I%26#39;d be thinking about changing host on your next trip. I did, didn%26#39;t like what the first host was doing for me, the second host has been great. Although I am staying at the Flamingo which is a big difference from the Wynn but still think its more of a host issue.

Is there a good way to locate a good host or even another host? The host I went through this time was the one that approached me. The host I checked out with was a different person and he wasn%26#39;t particularly generous so I didn%26#39;t even bother getting his card. Tough business finding a host to build a long-term relationship I suppose.

    Last minute itinerary HELP!

My daughter and her husband are going to Las Vegas on Monday for three nights. She asked me to help her plan an itinerary but I%26#39;ve been too busy at work to get to it. I%26#39;ve never been to Vegas myself (would LOVE to go!).They are in their mid-twenties, staying near the Strip, have a car but not much money and are not interested in gambling. They are going to the Grand Canyon with friends on Sunday. If anyone has any ideas for a general plan, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

    Last minute itinerary HELP!

Personally I would just have in mind a few places they might want to see, particular hotels etc. Just make your way towards that and see what you see along the way.

I find the best itinerary in Vegas is not to have one. Being spontaneous in Vegas is so much more fun. There are lots of cool things to see along the way.

    Last minute itinerary HELP!

Vegas is one place you don%26#39;t want to have an iteniary... you%26#39;ll always be running late...

There%26#39;s so much to see and do in Vegas, it doesn%26#39;t matter where you are, you%26#39;ll be having a great time.

When in Vegas, it%26#39;s best to play it by ear.

It is kind of hard to provide advice with so little to go on. What are they interested in doing? Shows- what kind? Dining- what do they like to eat and how much would be ';reasonable'; for them?

Here is a list of attractions:

    http://www.vegas.com/attractions/

To me the must sees would be- Bellagio fountains and conservatory (at night), Forum Shops at Caesars Palace (both an attraction and a mall), Mirage volcano, Eiffel Tower and the ceilings and canals -Venetian. All but the Eiffel Tower are free.

If they want to see a nice afternoon show (free)-Big Elvis at Bill%26#39;s. There is a 99 cent margarita bar near the lounge.

For the price of a (sometimes expensive) drink they can enjoy some great music at night- try the Duelling Pianos at Harrahs. If they don%26#39;t like it they can step outside of the casino and they will be in Carnaval Court- another fun place to be.

Really- just popping in and out of the various casinos is going to take a big chunk of time. Almost all of them offer something unique.

Just checking out all the hotels is a great way to spend the day - not to miss: Bellagio (conservatory and dancing fountains), Paris Hotel, Caesar%26#39;s and Venetian.

I%26#39;m one who thinks it IS a good idea to have an plan . . . otherwise LV can get so overwhelming, you just look at each other and don%26#39;t know where to start! But they should keep it loose.

There%26#39;s lots to do for little or no money.

Monday - Drive to a casino in the vicinity of The Mirage or Venetian (whichever is on the same side of the strip as they are) and park in their ramp (or . . . if they plan to be drinking, have them cab it . . . they do NOT want to drive under the influence). On foot check out the Mirage, Forum Shops, Caesars Palace, Bellagio, Paris, Flamingo and the Venetian. There%26#39;s much to see for free including . . .

    White tigers at Mirage

Anamatronic Statue shows at the Forum Shops

    Conservatory at Bellagio

    Water Fountain Show at Bellagio

Eiffel Tower at Paris ($10-ish admission to go to the top, but worth it--go after dark)

    Wildlife Walk at Flamingo

    Gondolas at Venetian

    Volcano at Mirage

They might also take in the pirate show at TI.

If they%26#39;re near Bill%26#39;s at 3, 5, or 6:30 the Big Elvis show at the lounge there is GREAT!

Less expensive dining will be at delis, food courts and 24-hour cafe%26#39;s. When they get hungry . . . find a place to eat . . . like the the Roasted Bean or Carib Cafe at Mirage, food court or Augustus Cafe at Caesars, Cafe Bellagio, Victorian Room at Bill%26#39;s, Margaritaville at Flamingo, Toby Keith%26#39;s I Love This Bar and Grill at Harrahs, or Grand Lux at Venetian.

There%26#39;s music in many of the bars and lounges in this part of the strip. No cover charge . . . just the (over-priced) cost of drinks.

Tuesday - Start out at NYNY or MGM (again . . . depending upon what side of the strip they%26#39;re staying on). Get to the Tix4Tonight booth just north of MGM by 9:30 or 10 and choose a show you%26#39;d like to see at a discounted price that night and pick up tickets. Then check out Planet Hollywood, the Miracle Mile, MGM, and NYNY. Again, stop to eat and drink when you%26#39;re hungry . . . my favorite lesser priced options here are Stage Deli at MGM, the food court area of NYNY and America at NYNY.

That evening see the show you picked up discount tickets for that morning.

Wednesday - Check out whatever else strikes your fancy, depending upon how long they%26#39;ll be in town. Or maybe spend some time at the hotel pool.

Don%26#39;t know whether their third night is Sunday or Wednesday . . . but I think a trip downtown to see the lights, light show, artists and musicians out on Fremont Street is fun!

Hope they have a great time!

With so much to do and see and with your daugher and son-in-law having so little time (three nights is not enough time IMHO)- I would put off visiting downtown or going off strip on this trip. I would conentrate on the strip attractions, casinos, shows, lounges and restaurants. But do tell her to visit downtown on her next trip. There is almost always a next trip.

It really depends on what their interests are. I was in Vegas in Oct (and going again in a week). We had a group of 10 of us all in our mid-twenties, and we all had different %26#39;must-dos%26#39;. As we all had different ideas of what we wanted to do, we split up quite a bit.

One thing we all agreed on though was just walking the strip. The Bellagio fountains were another must, and this time the Mirage Volcano will be a must as it was being redone when we were there last.

Most of us went to Freemont for an evening, which I personally recommend, just because it%26#39;s quite a different atmosphere from the strip.

If they like rides the ride at the top of the Stratosphere are great.

I%26#39;d say if they have a few specific things in mind, they%26#39;ll find lots to see and do, just making their way to their must-do%26#39;s.

    Hi Neighbor! Rochester here...

I wouldnt worry about an itinerary in LV. Once they get there, depending on where they are staying, they need only get to the strip and explore. If I could reccommend 1 thing, it would be the Bellagio Fountains, thats it. I like to plan by nature, but when Im in LV, there is no plan. There are too many sights to see, distractions etc.

BTW, When are you planning YOUR trip? =)

  • MGM Grand - how to get a free room upgrade?

    Hi All

Staying at the MGM Grand in June for a week. As not been to Vegas for 10 years, wondering whats the best way to get a room upgrade or atleast a strip view?

Is there any difference in terms of , when trying for a upgrade, that I check in at the airport at the MGM reservation desk (if still there) or I check in at the hotel?

I have booked the deal that includes the free buffet so wondered also if that effects my chance of requesting a free upgrade.

Any advice appeciated on trying to get a free upgrade?

    Many Thanks

    Scott

MGM Grand - how to get a free room upgrade?

Ask politely, say its been a decade since you visited and that you flew all the way from the UK. Be nice and pleasant. A small tip never hurts.

MGM Grand - how to get a free room upgrade?

    What Degen said.

im also staying at the MGM for a week in june and would really like to know the answer for this. wheres the replies people??

    Thanks

Any advice on what amount you class as a tip, eg amount I put on show in documents?

Also - is it worth getting the wife request the upgrade, do they carry any extra weight when checking in and asking for a upgrade?

    Thanks

    Scott

If there was a surefire way to get an upgrade, we%26#39;d all be doing it, and the hotels wouldn%26#39;t have anything but Strip views and Suites because they%26#39;d never fill the regular rooms.

If you want a better room, pay for it. If you want to chance it, chance it. Ask nicely. Don%26#39;t bribe them, but if they do upgrade you, tipping them never hurts. I%26#39;ve gotten just as many upgrades by asking nicely (and then tipping when I found out what the room was) as I have from showing the money up front -- and often, showing the money up front meant the money wasn%26#39;t returned and no upgrades were available, or the ';upgrade'; was a floor or two higher than the original room.

Ask if they have any complimentary upgrades available, (and if your willing to wait for a room), let them know, your willing to wait until one becomes available. Never hurts to ask. Good Luck! =)

My friend successfully got upgraded rooms his last two trips to Las Vegas. He politely asked if there were any room upgrades available while passing his credit card with a $20 tip folded under the credit card. He considers it gambling money, sometimes the trick works and sometimes it doesn%26#39;t.

If an upgrade is not available, it is up to the agent whether he/she keeps the $20 or returns it to you so it%26#39;s a gamble.

Ok I think ive asked this question before and never got an answer. Dont the front desk people have to ask MGNMT before giving someone a free upgrade. Just wondering how much leeway they have as to giving upgrades..

Two simple answers to your question on how to score a free upgrade: Ask without a bribe or ask with a bribe.

I find it hard to believe that a clerk would keep bribe money if he/she wasn%26#39;t able to deliver an upgrade.

    ';I find it hard to believe that a clerk would keep bribe money if he/she wasn%26#39;t able to deliver an upgrade.';

Iv%26#39;e known of several instances where the clerk supposedly ';upgraded'; and the room or location was furthest thing from it and took the guests tip, not too cool if you ask me.

Bellagio, Wynn, Encore, Palazzo and the M!!

I%26#39;m not sure that I%26#39;ll do a full fledged trip report this time around. However, in a couple of days I will write a report on my stay at the M since I know many want to know more about that newly opened resort. For the moment, this is going to be a brief report (ok so brief means different things to different people, lol)I%26#39;ll also report more on the rest of the trip later.

I met my friend Glittergal and two of her friends on May 26 at the Bellagio for a three night stay. Three of the four of us played in a slot tournament there. We had loads of fun together. I even ate at the buffet one night! (gasp!! LOL)

Bellagio..received a Lakeview Room without asking and still prefer the south corridor pool view rooms in the Main Tower to the lake view ones. However, lakeview room was beautiful, not one bit of wear and tear in it and it was spotlessly clean. Service as a whole was top notch in all ways at the B. The gambling at Bellagio.......not so good, boo and hoo!

Wynn........finally gambled there and really liked the time spent in their casino, entire facility is a class act.

Encore...tried a little gambling there, didn%26#39;t care for the casino, felt like I was in a mausoleum.

Palazzo...really liked the casino and had loads of fun there!

The M......it definitely deserves a thread all it%26#39;s own and I will do it within the next few days and also post up photo%26#39;s. Not much I can say other than a big WOW about the M, the WOW started the minute I walked in the front door of the M, first class all the way. Loved, loved, loved the M!!!!

PS, highlights of the time spent in Vegas were time spent with my special friend GG and also finally getting to meet Low and his lovely wife and a few others (more on that later)

Bellagio, Wynn, Encore, Palazzo and the M!!

Gabby, great to have you back..from the future.

You are so awesome you already took a trip in May :)

Bellagio, Wynn, Encore, Palazzo and the M!!

Awww, you are too kind Shrek!! :-) So, when are you execting my check in the mail? LOL.

    Hey you.

I agree on the Encore. Had no desire to gamble in there. It seemed crowded and squished together. Just walked around the outside edges, took a few pics, then back to the Wynn!

Will look forward to your M TR!

    Gabby

Wonderful to have you back. Sorry to hear you were not lucky at B.

I am really looking forward to hearing about the M resort.

    welcome back gabby

can%26#39;t wait for the M report

hope you had a great time

    question if i may

im going in 2 weeks and was wondering which of these two to visit GREEN VALLEY or the M RESORT

i have been to green valley

    just want your thoughts

    thanks

    debbie

Welcome back friend, and I am also looking forward to the ';M'; details :)

    Welcome back!!

    Gabby,

It was great getting to spend time with you again. Still sorry I did not get to make it to the M with you. We tried to warn MA and B about that buffet! MA paid for that dearly all day on Sunday. Looking forward to hearing about the M and seeing the pics. Agree with you about Encore. The lobby part is refreshing...the casino, not so much. Had loads of fun on that penny machine at Palazzo. Still can%26#39;t love the Wynn, but I keep trying. And the gambling did pretty much stink at the B until late Sunday night when B and I gutted it up for one last shot and pulled it out. Surprised you did not hear B at the M! You were a great sport to put up with two Texans and one Okie. They loved time spent with you and can%26#39;t wait to go back. Rest up and finish that trip report.

Gabby, I always anticipate your perspective on places you visit. M will be interesting. Glad you had a good time, too bad about the losses. More for you to win next time.

Deb, go check out the M, especially since you have already seen GVR. They are not at all alike. You%26#39;ll feel a definite WOW when you walk in the front door of the M.

Underpar, it was mostly the Bellagio that took my money! I did fine (held my own!) at both Wynn and Palazzo. I was only at the M from 4 PM Sunday til 9:30 Mon AM so didn%26#39;t do too much damage there. I could definitely see you liking the M, a class act.

Reoprt will get done over the weekend.

  • Pool question

What is the pool like at the Southpoint Hotel?

    Pool question

    Hi

I have not been since they built the new tower but when I was there I liked the pool area. A swim pool and a large hot tub built in a circle with an island in the middle. Lot%26#39;s of loungers. There was a beach volly ball area but I think I read that it has gone.

It also got lot%26#39;s of sun.

    Clive

    can you tell me why?

Can anyone tell me why my post was removed? I was just asking for advice on areas in LV that are good for real estate and possiblly buying into - maybe the reason is that it had nothing to do with travel but I have seen many nontravel posts here and they don%26#39;t get removed! Lowrance - thanks but we are only in the ';thinking'; stage right now, unless I can get my husband more interested in getting serious before the markey goes back up to where we cannot afford it

    can you tell me why?

I didn%26#39;t see the post, but I%26#39;ve seen other real estate posts removed because they weren%26#39;t travel related. Sorry that happened!

    wendover recession?

Planning to visit Wendover April 5,6,7. I was wondering how bad the economy has affected the hotels .. ? How crowded is it, and have the casinos also suffered.. ? Thanks in advance. !!

    wendover recession?

    Hello Jim.

I usually head down to Wendover on a Monday or Tuesday night.

While Mid-week has always been fairly slow, things do seem to have slowed down even more due to the economy.

Weekends are busiest, but weeknights still have enough business for it to be fun. There are times (ie between midnight and 4:00 am) that I have had the whole pit to myself and only see a few people wandering around the slots.

Betweeen 7:00 am and midnight things are still pretty hopping all week long.

    Hope this helps,

    Boyd.

    wendover recession?

Wendover Boyd is certainly the expert with first hand knowledge... however I just read this article in the Tooele Transcript which is really interesting:

';The taxable revenue report for January 2009 from the Nevada State Gaming Control Board shows taxable revenue in downtown Las Vegas is down 25.2 percent; the Las Vegas strip area down 32.9 percent; the Mesquite area down 15.2 percent; the Reno area down 2 percent; and North Shore Lake Tahoe down 10.2 percent.

The figures for Wendover go against the trend. In January 2009, taxable gaming revenue for the Wendover area of Elko County was up 16.5 percent.

“Business is holding pretty steady,” said Saul Andradea, spokesperson for the Peppermill, Rainbow, and Montego Bay Hotels and Casinos. “I would not say it is booming, but it is definitely better than other areas of Nevada.”

Sorry, you can read the text here:

    http://www.tooeletranscript.com/pages/full_story?page_label=home_top_stories_news%26amp;id=2129991-Wendover+bucking+the+odds+%26amp;article-Wendover%20bucking%20the%20odds%20%20=%26amp;widget=push%26amp;instance=home_news_1st_right%26amp;open=%26amp;

Thanks for the information Travelin. Very interesting statistics. I wonder if it is because Salt Lake City has not been hit with the recession quite as hard as most of the rest of the country? I also wonder if the cheap casino junket flights also have something to do with it? Whatever the reason, I am really glad to hear that Wendover%26#39;s gaming industry is fairing better than the rest of Nevada.

just wondering which specific bars / hotels MIGHT be showing the Stoke City v. Newcastle United (UK kick off time 17:30) on Saturday 11th April ?

Also, the iconic welcome to Las Vegas sign, exactly where is it please ?

    Many thanks.

english soccer on TV in vegas ? also where to find THE sign?

You can watch Football at the Crown %26amp; Anchor.

    http://www.crownandanchorlv.com/index2.html

THE sign is south on the Strip from Mandalay Bay. It%26#39;s not too far down after you pass MB. It is on the median - in the middle of the road.

english soccer on TV in vegas ? also where to find THE sign?

You can ask a cab to take you to the sign. They all know where it is. I went last summer. You can even have the cab wait for you to take a picture. He pulled in some nearby drive way while we got out and took our pictures.

They now have a REAL lot to pull into. No more running across the street dodging taxis.

Lazy girl's trip report--Loud toilets, Le Reve, & $20 drinks

    Will post as a reply

Lazy girl's trip report--Loud toilets, Le Reve, %26amp; $20 drinks

Feeling a wee bit lazy, so I%26#39;m just going to hit the high points, or things that surprised me!

Wynn: Hotel was great--were treated great despite booking on Hotwire. Asked for, and got, a great quiet room (1726) overlooking the golf course. Room was gorgeous and spotless. Loudest toilet I%26#39;ve ever heard in my life! It was like a rocket lifting off!

Valley of Fire: Took my breath away. Definitely worth a day trip. We stopped at Whole Foods (past Mandalay Bay) to pack a picnic--totally worth it. Recommend hiking the white domes trail--you feel like you%26#39;re on another planet!

Shows: Saw Penn and Teller and Le Reve--would highly recommend both, for different reasons. I was so nervous during the entire Le Reve show due to all the acrobatic feats, but would watch it again in a heartbeat! Worth every $$.

Restaurants: Mesa Grill remains my Vegas favorite. We did not have reservations, so we ate in the lounge while random hungry folks waiting for tables leered at and commented on our food (I%26#39;m talking to you, Montana!). But I had two Mesa margs, so nothing bothered me! Circo is great for the fountain view, but food is fine, not spectacular. Exception being the little bombolini donuts. Oh my word. Burger Brasserie is a sports bar, so if you want a burger in a sports bar, go nuts. If you%26#39;re looking for more atmosphere, then pass. I was not impressed. Hit Bouchon for breakfast, and loved the atmosphere, but my breakfast was just OK. Tableau breakfast was better, in my opinion. Also enjoyed snacks at Society Cafe at Encore--the veggie flatbread and pretzel breads were quite tasty!

Drinks: Enjoyed several tasty drink$ at the Wynn, including the raspberry lemonade at the poolside bar and the grand brut at Parasol Up, the famous $20 glass of champagne. Suffice it to say I sipped that one slowly!

Misc: Got a fantastic pedicure at the Wynn salon--it%26#39;s pricey, but they did a wonderful job, and they send you home with the files, buffers, etc., that they use.

Also hit the car collection at Imperial Palace for DH--he loved it, and saw several cars he had never even heard of before!

And the Bellagio fountains continue to rock my world. :)

That pretty much sums it up!

Lazy girl's trip report--Loud toilets, Le Reve, %26amp; $20 drinks

    Very nice report! Thank you.

I agree with you about Bouchon. Overrated. Tableau was much better.

Short but sweet! I%26#39;m glad you liked Le Reve because I%26#39;m hoping to see it in May and the Bellagio Fountains are, and will always be, my FAVORITE attraction in Vegas!

    Thanks for sharing!

Sounds like you had a beautiful trip. I%26#39;m leaving in 10 days so I%26#39;m super excited now!

Thanks for the report. I won free tickets to Le Reve in Feb for signing up for the Red card and loved it!

    Very nice summary, thank you.

You know? I was also surprised at the toilets at Wynn and MC this last weekend. Both reminded me of the Cruise ship super sucker toilets, lol.

    Mirage Cabana Rental

I went on the Mirage site, but it just says to call the concierge to help you out. Can anyone give me any info on how that works? I remember when we stayed at Bellagio, you had to get on a waiting list or something. Does anyone know approx. how much it is to rent a cabana at Mirage? And how you do it, like should I make the call now for July, or wait until we get there?

    Thanks!

    Tips

    Mirage Cabana Rental

Tipsie, Stratton and I reserved Cabanas for last years Mega in June.

They went for $250 a day back then Sunday through Thursday. a couple of them are available 30 days ahead of time, then they put you on a list in order of who booked. Then the morning of they call you to tell you if ones available. They save them for the high rollers.

Loved it to death and will provide pics later this morning. (PM to remind me cuz I%26#39;m doing taxes today!)

    Mirage Cabana Rental

I don%26#39;t stay at the Mirage, but when I book my cabana at the Palazzo, I book it through the concierge. I wouldn%26#39;t wait until you get there to book it. Email the concierge (the email is on the mirage web site) and book it.

    ';but it just says to call the concierge to help you out';

    Then do so

Although Low can tell you what his experience was last year - that does not mean it is the same this year. Prices vary.

I truly do not understand people not calling for information - especially when the website suggests such.

Bridge is right about calling to be 100% sure, but yes, we also had to call the concierge to book. Thye handle all the cabanas at the Mirage. Their location is directly across from the checkin desk.

Thank you everyone. That%26#39;s really all I needed to know. I will call, since it sounds as if it%26#39;s within our price range.

Bridge, you are rude every single time I see a post from you. If you hate people asking questions on a FORUM (DUH!), then why do you bother coming here??? MOST people are helpful, you, not so much.

Thank you Low. No need for the pics, as I%26#39;ve seen them. Your pics are actually what made me think how neat it would be to rent one. Having never done so before, I just wanted to get a ballpark on what the price would be, and get an idea on how it works and you provided that.

On a hot summer day, the misters and shade alone are worth the price =)

  • Comped for 4 nights but not doing much gambling

I have been to Vegas many times...but always with my ';gambling stash';, money saved just for gambling. The times being what they are for many of us, I have a question. I have been comped 4 nights at the Venetian %26amp; found a low airfare. This trip I will have a very small ';stash'; as I call it for gambling. Does anyone go comped %26amp; then not gamble much? I know this sounds silly...but I really appreciate your thoughts. Thanks

Comped for 4 nights but not doing much gambling

Sure you can have a great time and not spend a lot on gambling. If you want to do some gambling, just make small bets on the penny machine. Sometimes, if I can find a 2 cent video poker machine, I will play 2 cents or 5 cents a hand to kill time and still get drinks. LOL.

Comped for 4 nights but not doing much gambling

I don%26#39;t think it sounds silly at all! My DH and I went in December for 5 nights comped at Caesar%26#39;s Palace and hardly gambled! I think we gambled $100-$150 dollars per day! We just wanted to be in Vegas hanging around and enjoying each others company. If you can afford to go- I say go! Just don%26#39;t gamble over your ';stash'; and you should be good! Have fun!

    Mia

Mickey, I too have a gambling stash. So far so good there. If your room is already taken care of and you don%26#39;t give them much play, then chances are your future comps may be affected. But if that doesn%26#39;t concern you then don%26#39;t feel bad about accepting their offer. They can be nice, helpful and friendly but they are like hookers. Ultimately it%26#39;s all about your money. We%26#39;re all adults here.

I think the only thing to think about is that future comped offers will probably be jeopardized. I wouldn%26#39;t accept the comp, myself, unless I intended to play, because I wouldn%26#39;t want to ruin the relationship for the future.

Even though our last Vegas trip we didn%26#39;t gamble that much, it HAS NOT hurt our offers! We are going in May and are comped for our 5 night stay (within the HET properties at the same casino). Some casinos maybe different, obviously. Hope this helps.

    Mia

I always stay somewhere that I don%26#39;t care if I go to again or not when I%26#39;m going to be in non gambling mode when in Vegas. My comps have all been at MGM Mirage properties or GVR, however I made the decision that I would like move to some different properties, so when I don%26#39;t care if I%26#39;m gambling much or not, I%26#39;m going to use up my MGM Mirage comps and save the stash for properties I want to be invited to.

IlMickey95: Since you have a small stash, I%26#39;d suggest gambling it all at the same casino, because as underpar suggests, it may impact your future offers.

Instead of kicking around and gambling at every casino, save your stash for Venetian/Palazzo. Penny slot-player here with very little money gambled at Palazzo, and we are getting 3 to 4 offers weekly from Club Grazie, so the higher end casinos have got to be hurting for customers in this economy. Just my opinion, no real -life experience to draw on. Have fun. Mark

In my opinion if you can afford to go with the comps and low airfare, you should go and not worry about how it affects future offers. Enjoy yourself during this trip. You don%26#39;t know what the economy will be in the future none of us do, so enjoy this opportunity given to you and play wise with your ';stash';.

And then again you can stay home and wait till you can go without any hesitation and a better bigger ';stash';.

It is really your choice, you are the only one that knows what your situation is.

I think I got the same comp, and unless I win some early on also have little for gambling this time.... but I think the fine print says something about this offer being based on maintaining your historical level of play. I don%26#39;t know if that means they could charge you for the room if you don%26#39;t gamble or not.

Curious to hear more regarding them charging you after offering the comps.....

I always go on a comp room offer (and usually gamble quite a bit) - my next trip I am comped and also booked a second room at casino rate for one of my friends who is travelling with me. My understanding is that any additional comps during my stay would be based on level of play while there but once the room is given as a complimentary that it cannot be taken away????

Airport to hotel on the strip.

Just wondering if you can walk from the airport to the strip hotels ?

I%26#39;m a big walker and last two times I took a shutle bus. Only have a backpack.

    Is this possible ?

Airport to hotel on the strip.

Yes, it%26#39;s possible. The only thing that you should pay particular attention to is the temperature. It%26#39;s gets a bit warm sometimes. But what ever you do, walk or ride, don%26#39;t take the tunnel.

Airport to hotel on the strip.

    of course it%26#39;s possible

I%26#39;m also a walker - a few miles a day - I wouldn%26#39;t consider this since it is just unpleasant scenery and full of vehicle debri.

For cheap transport consider a bus - the CAT system website is user friendly. You can go to the SSTC and ride the duece up the strip or take a residential route. Both work, see what suits you.

you don%26#39;t say which strip hotel(s) - why plural - are you walking to more than one? The ';strip'; is miles long.

Possible? Probably-many things are possible in this world. Sensible-no! I am not at all sure the whole route is walker friendly as far as sidewalks, etc. are concerned. No matter what- it wouldn%26#39;t be a pleasant walk and it really makes no sense to me. You can walk all you want on the strip, downtown, etc. Why waste the time walking to a hotel?

    Thanks for your replies.

Oh, I don%26#39;t mind walking . I have walked to all places on the strip to Freemont and beyond. Plus I get there early so...

If there%26#39;s a sidewalk, I will use it and spend that extra cash somehwere else in LV.

    Thanks again :)

    Cheers

  • June travellers

Hi everyone, some advice please, my husband and I visited Las Vegas in 2000, and this year we are returning with 20 yrs old son. What we would like to do is fly from Birmingham England on the 8th June, stay for 2 nights at a themed hotel on the strip, travel around the area by road, and return to stay for the last 4 nights in a cheaper off strip motel/hotel. Now having used the forums on Egypt and numerous other locations I know there are experts on here that can help. Obviously we don%26#39;t have a bottomless wallet but we do want to show our son a good time before he leaves the nest for university. Please give some guidance.

    Dianne

    June travellers

Id personally recommend staying on the stip for the full duration of the trip

if cost is an issue somewhere like excalibur/Flamingo/Imperial Palace are just as cheap as anywhere and centrally located on the strip

or if you want something a litle more highclass/themed and still fairly cheap try Paris/PH/MGM they seem to be fairly reasonable prices at present

Personally id have to question how much of a good time a 20 year old lad can have in vegas not being able to drink or gamble to thats just me :-)

    June travellers

    Hi

You will find a big change since your last visit, alot has changed. There are many good deals on hotels this year. Here are two sites that give you links to promo booking pages

    http://www.smartervegas.com/

    http://www.vegas-hotels-online.com/

You will be able to save money if you stay off strip and having a car will allow you to stay anywhere. The South Point is very nice, on the LVB but about 5 miles south of Mandalay Bay. There is also Eastside Cannery or Sam%26#39;s Town on Boulder Hwy that might be worth considering. Another hotel that I like with a great pool is the Golden Nugget downtown which has been doing some really good deals. None of these places are particulary themed places though, you will need a strip property for that. I would look at maybe MGM for that, a good mid range hotel with lot%26#39;s of interest.

    Clive

I was wondering the same. A bunch of us are headed out June 10-14. Best bet is to stay on the strip the entire trip. With a 20 year old, he can at least enjoy the atmosphere since he can%26#39;t drink or gamble.

Thank you to those who answered my query. I will take all your advice but unfortunately my son is the one who picked Vegas so just hope he enjoys it. Those web sites are brilliant mant thanks

    Dianne

I would recommend also being on strip and using that as your base of operations- if you and your husband want to do something alone for a day or afternoon your son can get around by walking. Changing hotels especially with a bunch of luggage is a pain, Also my experience is that you can spend three or four days just %26#39;discovering%26#39; the strip area.

We are going also in June and have booked Mirage for 65 night and Bellagio for 90=hard to beat either one for the money/location.

Don%26#39;t worry your son will have a great time. I took 3 teenagers to Vegas last fall and they had a blast. I would also suggest staying right on the strip. Great prices on hotels right now in center strip.

    Slots

Can anyone give me any tips on winning at slots.

    Slots

I like the penny slots. Play max bet.

    Slots

I would recommend playing the dollar slots rather than penny, nickel, or quarter. ALWAYS play the maximum coins. It is just pure luck if you hit it big but have fun!

Just play what is fun and always play maximum. Remember to only lose what you can afford to lose. It goes rather quickly in the slots, so have some other activities planned and spread your gambling budget out over several sessions a day. I personally love Wheel Of fortune, but they probably have the worst odds of any slot machine.

When you are up money cash out and walk away.

Get your players card to earn comp points and dollars

Like every else has said play the max bet.

Slots are good up at the Mirage, Harrah%26#39;s is suppose to be good as well.

    Have fun

    TexasToll,

I have been researching this as well.

Here are some tips that I learned:

The higher costing slots have the better odds of winning. So the $1 slot will pay better than the $.50 which will pay better than the $.25 ect....

Always play max bet unless you are there just for the entertainment and are hoping to max your playing time vs. winning.

Give your self a budget per day for playing slots. It seems like most agree that $100 a day is a good amount to budget towards gambling. Many recomment that you set a goal to double your money and if you do quit for the day! The worst thing to do for you odds is to win and then keep playing.

Read the instructions on the slot that you are going to play. For example if you do not max bet on the wheel of fortune machines you are not eligible for the all important bonus spins.

Play the same slot machine only if it hits at an average of at least every three or four spins. Don%26#39;t keep on feeding a cold slot machine, hoping it will warm up. The longer you stay at a cold slot machine, the greater the odds against you. Doing that allows the casino’s built-in mathematical advantage takes effect. You want to “hit and run”.

The dollar and $5 machines have a much higher return. this visit it was grossly obvious that you could not win on nickel or quarters yet the $1 and $5 were paying like crazy in both the Mirage, Treasure Island and Mandalay.

If you start with $200 budget on a nickel or quarter machine, you may lose all of it quickly. If you start with $500 on a $1 machine, chances are you will play nearly even for hours. and there is the slim chance you will win $250-$600 on a single spin and be able to leave up a nice amount.

As for Max bet, be carefull. WOF machines its a must. most reel type machines its a better way. video games may not give you a real advantage.

But, If I hit on a max bet, I will drop to a single coin for 4-5 spins, then back to max coin again. I just think I put less money overall into a machine than the person max bet every time. I am guessing when it won%26#39;t win and only losing one coin instead of max.

Always switch machines, never stick with a loser, they are in a cycle to recover from big wins.

Progressive machines also tend to pay less small wins to make up for the progressive amount, avoid them unless you are really a gambler hoping for the one big score.

Will the real TexasTroll please stand up ? Are you guys cousins ?

Penny slots can cost more than the nickel or quarter slots. If the max penny bet is 200 pennies ($2.00) a spin, and the max quarter is 5 quarters (1.25) you are better off playing the quarters. Those penny slots irritate me, you have to put so many pennys in for a max bet. If you work up to 3 bucks a spin, you might consider dollar slots, some only take 2 or 3 dollars for a max spin.

Is the advantage to play $ 1.00 @ $5.00 slots v/s. penney slots

I play a lot of penny slots, they are just so much more fun. I never hit max bet and almost always walk away with a small win, maybe because I do walk away. Double your initial investment and walk away and try a new machine. It should be fun and not a job, so play what you like.

    Is this another LV rip-off?????

I just got back from a one-week trip to Bryce and Zion via LV and I spent two nights in LV at the Venetian. When I got my rental car (Thrifty) and at hotel check-in I was told that there was a penalty for early (24 hours or more) checkout or return. I got the feeling that not only did you not get a refund but you also got penalized. I have never encountered this on any of my travels. Is this another LV rip-off???

I%26#39;d appreciate and I%26#39;m sure others would appreciate any comments or experiences. I got the feeling that if you wanted to go out for 4 or 5 days and got cleaned out at the tables and decided to leave early that it was just another way to ';get'; you.

    Thanks,

    Kent

    Is this another LV rip-off?????

Are you talking about the hotel or the rental car? I would say every hotel, anywhere, we%26#39;ve been to recently (past few years) has had a no early check out policy, and you had to sign off on it when you checked in. I%26#39;m sure they make exceptions for proven emergencies.

If you%26#39;re talking about the rental car, let%26#39;s say you rent it for a week and return it after 4 days - you won%26#39;t get the often cheaper weekly rate, they%26#39;ll prorate you at the higher daily rate.

    Is this another LV rip-off?????

This comment from both the rental car company and the hotel. Frankly, I wouldn%26#39;t mind giving letting them keep whatever I paid them, but I don%26#39;t want to let them keep the money and to penalize me.

We travel to ';somewhere'; that involves either renting a car and/or hotel stay and this is the first time this has ever come up.

Kent, although the ';Cat is out of the Bag'; so to say, I would call both the Venetian and the rental car company for conformation.

If the first answer you receive is not what you intended, bump it up a notch.

We always have a rental car for our ten night stay in LV, and always have had a refund on my credit card for time not used (I book the car from the hour the flight arrives until our flight leaves).

This is standard procedure at many places, hotels and rental cars. Not in Las Vegas, but all over the US as well as European hotels where I%26#39;ve stayed.

Look at it from the business side: You said you were going to rent one of my rooms for 5 nights, now you want to leave after 3. Where am I going to find someone on short notice to rent that room for two nights? I might be able to, I might not...so at least I%26#39;ll get a $50 or so penalty from you to make up some of the lost revenue.

I%26#39;ve never seen this fee charged without having it disclosed at either reservation, check-in, or both. It can%26#39;t be a ';rip off'; if you agree to it when you book the room or check in.

Irishfan- you charge them for what they booked so no loss of any revenue. In fact the opposite-someone leaves early, clean the room and it can be rented out again meaning it would be paid for twice. To penalise a customer who has paid in full would be/is madness and terrible buisness.

Remember the hotels have your credit card number-they aint about to lose out.

Getting a refund would be down to someones discretion within the hotel management.

Could apply in both cases - depending on the T';s %26amp; C%26#39;s of the reservation.

Many places offer a low rate and you must guarantee your length of stay/rental in order to receive that rate.

If you leave early/return the car early you might cause them to lose income - especially these days with occupancy low.

So you take a chance - book a rate that obilgates you for the number of days you request, or one higher with more flexibility.

';I got the feeling that not only did you not get a refund but you also got penalized. '; I%26#39;m not familiar with any penalty in addition to paying for your reservation.

Since this is just a ';feelin'; why not call your hotel and rental car agency and ask? No one here will know for sure.

Nothing ';happened'; to me. I stayed for my intended stay and returned the rental car when I said I would. My point is as has been mentioned is that if I pay them for days I%26#39;m not there (I don%26#39;t get a refund.) I should not have to pay more as a penalty for early check-out. They already have the money I%26#39;ve given them for my intended stay.

could it not be that the hotel or rental agency refunds you for whatever time you didnt use or nights you didnt stay but less a penalty of ';x amount';. I would think that would be acceptable....

Kent -- I have have never seen this happen (being charge an additional penalty in addition to being charged the full free for the time booked if returning early.

Perhaps the rental car agency meant by penalty that you%26#39;d be charged for the days you used + a penalty for early return (not to exceed the amount of the initial agreement for the full number of days). I would also ask for clarification on such a statement from the person and/or read the contract to be certain.

Usually, for the hotel, depending on the hotel policy, cancellation policy, and how the room was booked, they may or may not charge the full fee for a room that was booked for more days than was stayed. (would think better luck at hotel that was not prepaid and has a 24 hr cancellation policy if you initially booked for 5 days but told them upon check-in or at least early in the visit that you would only be staying 4 days -- given that the last day is still being canceled well within the 24 hrs expected for cancellation - would expect a refund and would discuss this point with the manager if necessary - but if I just decided on the last day not to stay - I would expect to have to pay for the last day regardless of whether I stayed in most cases and would just be delighted if they opted not to charge. But in no case would I expect to be penalized more than the initial agreement for the full 5 days unless I stayed longer than the agreement).
