Casino - Hubby on Crutches - Mirage/Venetian Help

My husband recently had surgery for a torn achilles tendon - and we do not want to cancel our trip. Currently, we are staying at Venetian - but we are wondering if we should switch to Mirage since it seems like Mirage is less crowded and maybe easier to get around in. Any thoughts on either casino and the ease of getting around.

Thank you!

The Mirage may be a great place, but it would never be described as either uncrowded or easy to get around. I%26#39;d think it harder to navigate than the V, it has a number of bottlenecks. The V may be bigger (and have more issues with stairs!) but it all my times there, I%26#39;ve never had to wait for people to get out of the way in order to move forward.

I would have to agree with Zeke. Also I hope he is renting one of those scooters to get around.

I would think the Mirage would be less challenging, but Zeke%26#39;s right. This last weekend both were very crowded.

rent a scooter

I have prblems walking. I do not use crutches, but must use a cane, and move a bit slow. We like staying at the Venetian, as there is no reason to leave unless you want to. The casino is quite large, plenty of food choices, from imexpensive on up. Some decent shows, and shops to browse through.

I always ask for a room on the first floor of rooms, close to the elevator. I do not care about the view. It is nice to get right off the elevator and walk a small distance to the room, rather than hike a bit, take another elevator and hike some more. I have not found noise from the elevator to be an issue. If you think that a scooter may be a consideration, call the Venetian. They can arrange to have one delivered and picked up. (for a fee).

We took 2 trips while my wife had to use a cane, and by far the best was Wynn. If you think about the design, the public areas are small, and you never have to walk through the casino area to get to anything else. All the restaurants are down hallways, including buffet and coffee shop. There are no stairs or escalators at all. The entire property is very compact, Wynn is usually not crowded---And there are no kids in the public areas. This can be a big problem at Venetian, especially in summer.

If Wynn is not within your budget, I would recommend TI. Smaller than most hotels, and usually not crowded.

Since you%26#39;re already booked at Venetian, have you considered switching to Palazzo instead? The walk from the lobby to the elevators is a ';straight shot'; through the casino, and the casino itself has nice wide isles and no bottlenecks (that I can think of).

Rent a scooter is very expensive. i would recommend Paris. Much, much smaller. i was on the same situation to years ago.

I find the Venetian easier to get around than the Venetian. When I used to get lost in the main floor area, I%26#39;d just look up and scan for the big red Grand Lux Cafe sign and get my bearings. Then I knew exactly what direction to go.

The Grand Canal Shoppes area is more confusing but I%26#39;d still stay at the Venetian than the Mirage.

You can also get a wheel chair from the Venetian when you arrive if your hubby would be ok with that. My mom had a broken ankle one year and was on crutches. She didn%26#39;t want the wheel chair but eventually gave in and it worked out great. Anywhere you go, there are elevators to use to get to where you want to go. Unlike those crazy escalators in Vegas that never seem to be working, I have yet to see an elevator that isn%26#39;t.

All the best with your trip!

I had surgery on my back and will be getting a knee replacement soon and have to walk with a cane (gymnastics when I was a kid). My daughter and I are going to Vegas for a week on April 11. She insisted that I rent a scooter because she said I would never be able to get around and enjoy myself. I felt too embarassed because I am only 50 yrs old but then I realized that she%26#39;s right and no one knows me anyway lol. We are staying at the Palazzo. I called the concierge and they are arranging for a scooter rental for me for 7 days which will cost $120.00 which isn%26#39;t bad considering how much pain it will save me from. The scooter will be there when I get there and they will pick it up when I leave. Everywhere is accessible by scooter including public transportation, etc.
