Sales tax in California goes up 1% today. I happenned to get a new car this weekend. The sales tax increase didn%26#39;t matter to me because I lease my cars. But you should have seen the dealership this weekend! All these people were trying to buy cars before the tax increase, and of course the salesmen thought it was kind of funny. You are talking about an average of maybe a couple of hundred dollars---spread out over 6 years of payments. But they did appreciate the extra business.

Maybe the government is going about stimulating the economy the wrong way. Maybe they should consider raising sales taxes to force people to spend now, lol.

Before everyone rushes off to Delaware, note that sales tax is based on where you register the car, not where you purchase it.

Hey, come on up to Ontario Canada. The sales tax rate is 13%. It just dropped from 15%. It applies to everything. Not bad eh?
