Linked Progressive Slots - Hitting The Big One!!

We%26#39;re going to be in Vegas in June for 9 days. We%26#39;ll do all the tourist stuff........ Grand Canyon, Freemont Street Experience, Death Valley, queueing for a buffet....... and hoping for the elusive big win!!

We don%26#39;t play the slots here and never have! The slots jackpot at our local casino is £4000. Hardly worth getting out of bed for :)

I%26#39;ve been doing a bit of Googling tonight and have a few questions......

...Are these machines really obvious? We%26#39;re not going to scratch our heads looking for them are we?

...I know that to have a chance of winning the jackpot you have to play maximum coins. How much is that per spin?

...I read that the odds of hitting the jackpot are about 16 or 17 million to 1. Does that sound about right?

...Is there any skill or thought required at all or do you just push a button and wait for the reels to stop?

...Should we at least get a free drink out of the cocktail waitress for piling our cash into a slot? :) (less the tip of course!!).

Thanks.

Yea, they are pretty obvious, if you walk into a casino, you will see a lot of signage with the $ amount of the progressive. Max coins per spin depends on the machine and the denomination of the machine. Quarter and dollars are usually 3 coins per spin. Yea, your odds for hitting sound about right, probably even higher than that. No thought reguired, put in money, hit button tip cocktail waitress. Some service is betterin some casinos than in others, but they usually make an appearance. Once you start ordering and tipping, they will come by on a regualr basis. Good Luck!

You can%26#39;t miss the progressive slots - the gigantic neon marquees with the dollar amount are easily visible. If not, just ask someone (where is Megabucks? for example).

And while you%26#39;re hoping for the big one, remember you can win smaller payoffs, too. I won $600 on Megabucks and walked away happy.

No skill - put money in, press button.

Of course you can get drinks while playing these.

Cheers folks. So we should be looking at about $3 per spin then?

If we count to ten between spins we might make it last a wee while then :)

Thanks.

They are very obvious - you will see electoric signs above the machines showing a running total of what the big jackpot is worth at the moment.

There several different machines with progressive jackpots. The most popular are 25 cent and $1 Wheel of Forture (costing 75 cents or $3 a spin.)

Odds of winning are 1-in-many millions. Not sure of ';16 or 17'; is the right number of millions, but that sounds reasonable.

No ';skill'; involved (unless you believe in telekinesis)

It can easily take 20 minutes for a CW to come over to you, take your order and bring you a drink. That can get *very* expensive playing the progressive machines. Since they build up a jackpot, they payout even less than normal machines if you don%26#39;t hit the big win.

Me? I%26#39;m a cheapskate. Maybe 1-2 spins of the progressive, then on to the penny slots if I want to play for a while (and get drinks!).

We are here to try and help!!

1) Yes, the machines are pretty hard to miss - just look for the display above certain machines, that has a Dollar-value that is slowly growing higher and higher. That represents the amount of the jackpot, as it grows over time.

2) The max-coin on a lot of the reel-type machines will probably be 3 coins, but you might find one that has a 2-coin max, and maybe some that require more. Be sure to read the paytable that is posted on the machine, or touch the Help button to find out what the pays are for various numbers of coins, and that should also give an idea about what the max coins is. You might not want to just press the MaxCoin button, without knowing how much it is, or you could get an unexpected surprise.

3) The odds you mention may be about right, but they could be even higher than that, in some cases. In any event, it sounds like you don%26#39;t have any misconceptions about the remote likelihood of a big win, which is good.

4) No real skill required - there is an RNG chip inside the machine that is constantly spitting out bit-patterns, and you will get whatever one is being produced at the moment that you hit the Spin button. We have seen some who seem to want to try and achieve a mind-meld with the computer chip, so you can decide if that%26#39;s a worthwhile technique.

5) Yes, you absolutely should be able to get a drink (or three) while you are playing. You may have to flag down a CW, as they sometimes pass by kind of quickly, but a fair tip will hopefully keep you on their radar. A lot of posters report that the CW service in the Downtown casinos is usually pretty good, but hopefully it will be equally good, wherever you choose to play.

LV should be quite a change from bonnie Scotland, if you haven%26#39;t ever been ther before. Best of Luck !!

I never see Quartermania anymore. I used to like it because it was only 2 coins max - is it gone?

If it%26#39;s a nice summer%26#39;s day in Edinburgh when we leave it might hit 70 degrees. We%26#39;re gonne cook!

We%26#39;ve done Texas in March and that felt pretty hot to us!!

You%26#39;re right by the way, we don%26#39;t expect to win, but someone has to!! And we don%26#39;t get a free drink from the National Lottery every Saturday :)

Thanks for the info everyone.

Side note - Nevada is weird. Tons of gambling, but it%26#39;s one of the few states without a lottery. Arizona has a lottery, and also has Powerball, a multi-state lottery. The odds of winning the big Powerball jackpot is something like 1-in-200 million. The jackpot grows if there is no winner and has gotten has high as $300-something million. If you want a shot at the big bucks, buy a ticket for $1 at some point when you are in Arizona.

Go for that Megabucks! Looks like it%26#39;s due! :)

Wow, that%26#39;s nearly 11 months since the jackpot was paid out.

It just needs to hang on for another 3 months...........
