Is it true?

I%26#39;m going to Vegas at the end of June with my fiance for our honeymoon. We%26#39;re staying in the Bellagio but have just read a review saying that the ATM in the Bellagio does not accept UK debit cards (we%26#39;re from England, probably should have said that before! :))

Now you might be thinking ';just take travellers cheques'; etc and although we will be taking some, we had planned on withdrawing most of our cash from ATMs as we both have accounts which won%26#39;t charge us commission for doing so.

So, my question is - is it true that UK debit cards aren%26#39;t accepted? If so, where is the nearest ATM which does accept them located?

All help appreciated!

Is it true?

Your bank may not charge for ATM withdrawals, but you will be charged a fee for using the ATM in the casino. Sorry, can%26#39;t help with whether the machines accept UK cards, I have accts in both the US and UK so don%26#39;tknow the answer to that query.

Is it true?

Even if the ATM in the casinos take your cards, I would suggest avoiding them if possible. They charge a very high fee. If you withdraw $100, you are going to pay $10-20 just for using the ATM.

OK so how about outside of the casino? I can%26#39;t believe that a city which encourages you to spend money doesnt enable you to get to more of it when you want to

Yeah you want to be careful with that you%26#39;ll definitley be charged a fee for actually using the ATM everyone is

and just because your debit card is commession free doesnt mean its a good idea, they very well could sting you completely on the exchange rate they offer you for withdrawing overseas

a card that charges commesion can even be better if they offer a higher exchange rate even though they take a small comession fee

id look into in properly as you may find its much beter to just take Money/Travelers Cheques with you

We always use ATMs both in and out of casinos - mostly in the malls! No problem with either of our UK debit cards, but do remember to tell your bank before you go. Last time my husband forgot and it took a lengthy and expensive phone call to get his card usable again. Our cards are visa and maestro Abbey and HSBC and they work fine everywhere.

I%26#39;ve never had a problem using any ATMs with a Nationwide Visa debit card, did the poster who wrote the review say which type of card they had a problem with.

The casino ATM%26#39;s are usually more expensive than those outside, but I would say normally around the $3/4 in commission charges and certainly not as high as $20.

Thanks to all who have replied. One of the benefits of forums is that you%26#39;re made to think abotut stuff that you wouldn%26#39;t otherwise - I guess we%26#39;re just being lazy and don%26#39;t want the fuss of changing travellers cheques into cash.

Lenny, no the poster didn%26#39;t say which debit card it was, just that they weren%26#39;t accepted and had to withdraw from a credit card instead!

Id use a credit card for buy stuff whilst over there and take money/travels cheques for the rest

I wouldnt withraw from my debit card due to hidden changes and certinely wouldnt with draw cash from a credit card overseas as they%26#39;ll have your eyes out ;-)

id recomennd checking this site for the full low down he knows his stuff :-)

FYI you can always take and exchange some 拢 for $ at any casino cage with the rates being on par with the UK high streets.

Even though you will be charge a small commission for withdrawing from the ATM鈥檚, the calculated rate is the official exchange rate which of course is always higher than the tourist one and again just remember to make one large withdrawal as opposed to lots of small ones to save in commission charges.

SO... I either get charged commission when I buy the currency, when I sell it back on my return (assuming I%26#39;m not bankrupt!) or get charged to withdraw cash from an ATM so I%26#39;m going to get stung at some point, it just depends when!

I%26#39;ve withdrawn cash in canada and barbados and didn%26#39;t get stung too badly. I was just slightly surprised at the ';ATMs don%26#39;t accept UK debit cards'; comment.
