Exchanging Canadian dollars ~ where Canada or Vegas?

We are heading off to Vegas in about three weeks and was wondering.......

With the CDN dollar not doing so well I had heard that some casinos are offering an exchange rate of the CDN dollar at par – true or false? If true, then where?

Would it be better to wait until getting to Las Vegas to exchange dollars rather than doing it at my local bank? (bank is selling at 1.2639)

Any suggestions?

Sorry, haven%26#39;t heard of any casino%26#39;s in Las Vegas offering Canadian dollar at par. I always do my exchange dollars here (in Canada) and when I come back from Vegas and if any US$ money left over put in a us account for next time.

They will do this in Reno often but I haven%26#39;t seen any great exchange rates in the last couple of years at any of the hotel casino cages in Las Vegas.

I save my money in an american funds account and if I require additional funds I would write a chq in canadian funds at the cage. That is no longer done in at least the HET properties. So my plan will be to use the atm debit machine if I require it.

This was asked not too long ago and it seems you will do better exchanging in Canada. There is no where in Vegas that will exchange at par (other than when it was at par :) One thing you could look into is getting a US dollar account as they will give you a slightly better exchange rate (TD Canada Trust does).

Yes, exchange in Canada. In Toronto, there are places like Bendix that offer better than bank rates - like everything else, you need to shop around. Also, if possible, use a USD denominated credit card whilst in the US that you can pay off with USD vs charging on a CAD credit card or using your bank card in the US - fees are pretty bad.
