Hi guys my wife and I are making out first trip to LV next year. Currently considering a few hotels but was wondering what is opening this, and early next, year, that is likely to be in the around 100 bucks per night bracket?
Am thinking of NYNY at the moment but worried about the big development next door overshadowing the pool area?
Also ,not being from the US, are there any times to avoid in April/May and September/october when it is likely to be expensive or have lots of kids around the hotels?
thanks

LV 2010-info needed2010??? No No Noooooo That%26#39;s when Skynet is finally taking over. The machines rise to power and eliminate all humans!!!! They can%26#39;t be stopped unless they send the leader of the humans back in time and destroy all plans for Skynet!!!!
(I really should spend less time watching ';Terminator, the Sarah Conor Chronicles';)
LV 2010-info neededok...back to reality.... lol
You can probably get MGM for that price, and maybe several other decent hotels.
I just stayed next door at Monte Carlo, and the City Center doesn%26#39;t obstruct the poool in anyway. The sun rises in the east, which comes from the MGM side, then over NYNY, then down across the freeway.
I haven%26#39;t stayed there but have heard NYNY rooms are some of the smallest on the strip. And, personally, I don%26#39;t care for the remodel of the casino. They took away all the NY look. Shame there.
Spet/Oct is a great time.
This year Easter falls on April 12th, so some parnets might take their kids then, other than that you should be fine.
My crystal ball is broken, but a few general observations;
--Google ';las vegas convention calendar'; and you can see the dates in 2009 when there are big (%26gt;25,000 attendees) conventions in town. Hotel rates, especially at properties hosting or near the convention sites are more expensive then.
--To avoid kids, avoid the school break times (mid June-end of August, plus holidays like Memorial day and Labor Day).
--Also, avoid kid-friendly hotels; Excalibur, Mandalay Bay, MGM, Circus Circus (many other reasons to avoid CC as well!)
--April/May and Sept/Oct are more expensive because the weather is usually the nicest those months.
These are some general planning tips, all of which have an impact on the price of the room, crowds, etc. The same room could be $59 one night, and $300 on another night.
Have a great trip! For me, the research and planning are 1/2 the fun!
If you%26#39;d like a nice pool area, NYNY is a mediocre choice. Pool is nothing special.
Your post indicates some indecision about the timing of your visit -- given the months you specify, I%26#39;d say that the first half of April and the latter half of October may not be pool weather.
As far as avoiding kids, stay away from the week immediately following Easter Sunday, as a lot of US schools are on break then. Otherwise, the rest of April/May and September/October should be good.
You may want to look up the 2010 dates for US federal holidays Memorial Day (end of May) and Labor Day (beginning of September) as those could be big ';family weekends.';
For around $100/night, you should be able to get Flamingo, Harrah%26#39;s, Mirage, Treasure Island, possibly even Bally%26#39;s or Paris. Maybe MGM Grand.
Of those, Mirage, MGM, and Flamingo have the best pools. I tend to recommend a center Strip location for a first visit to Vegas, and that rules out MGM. But the location shouldn%26#39;t be a deal-breaker.
Of course, being a year+ out from your desired dates, there aren%26#39;t deals being offered right now. No one knows what the Vegas economy will look like next year. So by all means, please don%26#39;t book anything that%26#39;s non-refundable!!!!!
If Vegas is still hurting in 2010, you may be able to get a nicer property like Mandalay Bay, Caesars, Bellagio, Venetian/Palazzo, or Wynn to meet your daily budget. (This is more likely if you are staying on weeknights versus weekends.)
Thanks Paul we will bear that in mind. We are aiming for the first two weeks of May as we have a public holiday then so less days to take off work. September/October is reserve in cas emy wife can%26#39;t get the time off work. We are also going down to Tucson for a few days so need the balance of pool weather in LV but not too hot in Tucson!
We are looking to book around Christmas are there bargains available that early for May or is it better to wait intil a couple of months before?
