My golf review

Just got back and golfed Laughlin Ranch and Los Lagos. I had a twilight tee time at LR ($74.00) and asked the starter if he had a retired military discount. He said no, but then took $20.00 off! This was the highlight of my round. The wind was WINDY!!! It really ate me up. My round was terrible, just rotten. I actually stopped keeping score after the first few holes. Played with some nice guys (better than me); one was a local. I also played Los Lagos and also enjoyed it. First time and really think it%26#39;s a great track. I had a tee time for Cerbat Cliffs the day after Laughlin Ranch, but cancelled - I didn%26#39;t want to suffer another windy round of golf. Probably should have gone up there. For a muni, it%26#39;s a great golf course. And, of course, my heart went out to good ole%26#39; Emerald River. It%26#39;s getting to the point now that you can%26#39;t even see where the fairways used to be. Somebody, PLEASE, bring back Emerald River!!

My golf review

LR might be one of the windiest non coastal golf courses in the country! Unless you consider the shores of the Colorado River %26#39;coastal%26#39;. But it is a great track. Sadly many golf courses can%26#39;t generate enough revenue to stay open these days. Emerald River was an early casualty and forerunner of what Obama wants to do to us all now. Next time you%26#39;re in Laughlin, drive down to the Avi resort and play at Mojave. That%26#39;s a fun course, and was in good condition the last time I played it. It%26#39;s been a few years though...

My golf review

';what Obama wants to do to us all now.'; What is that supposed to mean? The Republicans run us into the ground and Obama gets the blame. Another example of our unenlightened citizenry at work.

In fact I pray for a redistribution of wealth daily so I can scoop up some of those big bucks from those who can afford to live in places like Sedona. John McCain must be spending lots of time in Sedona (one of his many homes) lately. He sure doesn%26#39;t do anything for Laughlin. He has consistently opposed Arizona funding for a second Laughlin-Bullhead bridge. He says we really don%26#39;t need it. I challenge him to wait in the daily traffic jams to get across the river before shift change. But again, they are just poor minimum wage workers, and the Republican right doesn%26#39;t give too much of a hoot about those folks anyway.

Enough political commentary after eight years of being buried up to our eyeballs. Stick it to %26#39;em Mr. Pres.

Viva Laughlin!

Hey - Can%26#39;t we all get along! Let%26#39;s stay on the subject. I%26#39;ve played Avi - Yes, an excellent course. Love it. I%26#39;ve played (I think) all the local courses and there is one that I just don%26#39;t like: El Rio, and I don%26#39;t know why. The few times I did play the greens were burnt to a crisp, but other than that the course seems to be nice enough. Just can%26#39;t get a decent score out there.

I have not played El Rio. I am hooked on Los Lagos now. Far prefer it to Mohave Resort.

Mr.Sedona expert thanks for my laugh for the day. I laughed out loud on that one. Twisting the story of a golf course that has been closed for years into a dig on Obama. Hilarious. Great April fools joke, and an obvious attempt to prompt someone to respond. Grif took the bait.

(I sure hope he was not serious)

CaSwede.....Mr or Mr. Sedona? ha, ha

I find that many Republicans are genuinely quite bitter over the loss of the Whitehouse as well as Congress. Look at fat boy Rush.....wanting the President to fail. Now there is a true patriot! What a loser! Can you imagine someone saying that they wanted our military leaders in the field to fail during the invasion of Iraq? They would have been branded as traitors. And rightfully so. Anyway, I%26#39;m glad I didn%26#39;t start this whole thing, but as a patriot, I just couldn%26#39;t let it go......until now. Done

Viva Laughlin!

  • TR : 3/24 - 3/27, Caesar's, O, Craps!

Since I spent so much time reading everyone’s advice in planning our first trip to Vegas, it only seems right to report back on our trip. I have read a few trip reports that narrate day-by-day, but I am not sure ours would be so interesting and I often find that style to be time consuming to use as research. Hopefully this format will be acceptable.

    Flight/Airport/Transportation

Our Southwest flight was great! So great to be able to check bags at no charge. This allowed us to bring anything and everything we thought we might want to wear. Non-stop was a huge treat for us. We are rarely able to fly direct from Portland to anywhere that we have traveled. Airport was easy and our bags were some of the first off the plane. We took a taxi and asked to go via Swenson…I took a shot…I know some have said to just let the drivers take you the way they want, but I went with the advice to avoid being “tunneled”. I think the total was $17 and change so I gave the driver $20 and called it good. Return trip via taxi and our flight home was uneventful.

    Caesar’s Palace

We flew in to Vegas pretty early on a Tuesday and ended up at Caesar’s at 9:30 a.m. The signs at check-in said that check-in was typically from 1-5 p.m. so we decided not to push the rules at that time. We left our bags with the bell desk and started exploring. We followed to sound of slots and eventually ended up in a food court where we ate some breakfast (more on that later). Then we wandered through half of the Forum Shops without going in any of them. I know a lot of people come to Vegas to shop, but thee stores were definitely too rich for us and I figure I can shop at home, why would I spend my time doing that here.

We finally decided to check-in around 11 a.m. I was eager to try the $20 tip trick. We got an amazing $75 a night rate using a “Friends and Family” discount code I found on Fatwallet for a Classic Room and we would have been perfectly happy. However, a friend was successful with the $20 tip and I was curious. So we approached the counter and I gave her my name and let her start searching. A few moments later I asked if there were any upgrades available and she said she would see what she could do. Then she asked for ID and credit card and I handed them to her with the $20 underneath. She very smoothly slipped it into her pocket and said “Oh! Thank you very much” as she continued to type. At this point in time I didn’t know for sure if we had an upgrade or not but I was pretty optimistic. My husband on the other hand, figured we had just lost our $20. Next thing I know she is giving us keys and wrote down the room number at PT2326. Well now I knew we had it because that could only stand for Palace Tower and I know there aren’t any Classic rooms in that tower.

We headed up to our room and it was great. Overlooking the pool (and a bit of construction, but we weren’t complaning and it actually turned out to be pretty fascinating to watch). The “Deluxe room” was large by our standards, had a jetted tub and two sinks; lots of storage and room to move around. The pool is right out the elevator doors which was also a plus for us as we were determined to get some sun!

    More later...

    TR : 3/24 - 3/27, Caesar's, O, Craps!

Off to a great start. Can%26#39;t wait for the craps part. Glad the $20 seemed to do the trick too~!

    TR : 3/24 - 3/27, Caesar's, O, Craps!

Good report so far. Looking forward to more. Don%26#39;t make us wait too long. I am interested in hearing about the food court.

    This format works great!

    Looking forward to reading more.

    Dining

Caesar’s Food Court: We only ever had breakfast here as we were elsewhere at dinner and never really ate lunch on this trip. I can’t remember the name of the place, but next to the coffee shop is the only restaurant serving breakfast. We thought it was excellent. Twice we ate the and had bacon, egg and cheese croissants. We also ordered a side of potatoes and those were also excellent. Total bill: $11.26. We were able to spit the sandwich and potatoes and that got us through most of the day…a handful of trail mix got us to dinner. We also had coffee at the coffee shop…a latte and a drip coffee cost almost as much as breakfast, but we had to have it! Decent coffee…did the trick ?

Caesar’s Breakfast Buffet: We each had $20 comped for signing up for the players card so we used it here. I knew it wasn’t the highest rated buffet going in, but it was free! Decent breakfast, but nothing special. I don’t think it would be worth it for me to eat here at pay normal prices. Can’t even really remember what we ate.

Ellis Island: A total disappointment. I don’t know what I was expecting, but based on reviews we tried it out. It is definitely more of a hike from the strip than “behind Bally’s” would lead you to believe. A total dive and average breakfast. My husband and I both ordered the meal that comes with 2 eggs, bacon, toast and potatoes. Nothing special and not worth the walk. The menu says “crisp bacon” and this was anything but crisp, which is how I like my bacon so that was very disappointing. Potatoes were good….kind of that almost battered fired potato chunk style. Basic wheat toast and average eggs. Although we have definitely found that “over medium” in Vegas is still pretty runny. I would rather pay more to eat on the strip and save the time it takes to walk there.

Border Grill (Mandalay Bay): We had a restaurant.com coupon for here and the Margarita reviews were pretty good. Dinner here was good. We eat pretty well in Portland, OR and this place seemed to fall in with the quality and selection we can get at home but for higher prices (to be expected, I guess). The margarita was good, not syrupy sweet, but didn’t really have much effect….I guess I expected a little more of a buzz. I had the Tecate Carintas and my husband ordered the Conchinita Pibil, both pork dishes and they were tasty. I also ordered a side of caramelized plantains and I would not recommend them…not bad, just not good enough.

Two margaritas and our meals came to $78 after our $25 coupon was applied and we tipped. We eat a lot of Mexican food (not at the chain restaurants either) and really enjoy a quality margarita. It was a fine meal, but I think we’ll try something else next time.

Margaritaville: This was a real mixed bag. I went there knowing that I was having the volcano nachos and a “Perfect” margarita. I will start with the nachos….disappointing. They were definitely large and had good flavor but I was bummed that they added “pump” or “nacho” cheese to them. They also have regular melted cheese, which is good, but I don’t ever want pump cheese on my nachos. If I were to order them again in a desperate nacho craving, I would definitely ask to leave off the pump cheese in favor of more shredded cheese. Plenty of guacamole, sour cream and jalapenos for my liking and the ground meat that came with it was flavorful although I meant to order it with the chicken. Now the margarita was EXCELLENT. The best one we had in Vegas. We tent to be margarita connoisseurs and do not like syrupy, sugary mixes and weak drinks. This was neither of those. It is definitely worth the extra $1.50 over their cheapest marg to have quality tequila and lime juice. I would go back here every time we come to Vegas just for this margarita!

Spice Market Buffet (Planet Hollywood): We decided to eat here because it was easy, had good reviews and I had a $5 off coupon for each of us. As I am sure is true with many buffets, it was really hit or miss. There was stuff we loved and other items that were just okay or totally not worth having on your plate. I recommend the tempura shrimp, shrimp cocktail, tequila lime chicken and the cream puffs….definitely the cream puffs! The crab was disappointing. I don’t understand why buffets serve it cold, but even still it really lacked flavor. The thing I couldn’t believe was the lack of decent bread…only dinner rolls could be found. I would expect quality artisan breads at a buffet like this. Oh, and the pastas I had were good as well. Even though this wasn’t bad, I think if we were going to do a dinner buffet again, we would try somewhere else.

Taqueria Canonita (Venetian): Very good. We had 2 great margaritas here….again, not syrupy sweet (you can probably tell by now that we were not one of the couples walking around Vegas with a slushy drink in a “yard” glass) and had nice flavor. We were here for lunch so we shared the 5 taco platter: chicken, steak, pastor, fish and mushroom. All of them were good except the chicken, just no flavor. We also really enjoyed the warm chips and tasty salsa. This place is right along the canal and we were able to get seated right next to it so we could watch the gondoliers float by. A perfect final meal in Vegas.

I too enjoy a great margarita, and I agree with your surmise that margaritaville%26#39;s perfect margi%26#39;s are great. If you want one even better go to Isla Mexican Kichen in the T.I. They will make one from scratch with premium tequila, and then muddle the old fashioned way way with fresh fruit. I had the rasberry and it was awesome, still tastes like a strong margi with a hint of fruit like it should. Nice report.

great TR. i really like how you break it down into sections - for easier reading for people looking specifically for info on food, or hotel, etc...

sorry that you didn%26#39;t enjoy Ellis Island. it seems to be one of those places that you love or hate. i am partial to it, but my husband cannot stand it. he%26#39;s of your vote that he%26#39;d rather NOT walk there and get ';semi-decent'; food (in his words), and rather stay on strip and pay a bit more for something better. me, on the other hand, i find the food quite decent and the prices are amazing. what can i say? i%26#39;m cheap ;)

Great TR so far, really appreciate the level of detail especially the tip about squeeze cheese on the volcano nachos! I%26#39;ll stick with the nachos at Tequila Bar!

    Hope there%26#39;s more to come.

thanks M. I will try the ras. rita at TI this weekend. Leaving for Vegas late on Thurs.

    MGM Crazy Horse

My husband and I wanted to see a burlesque type show...not interested in strip clubs, but thought it would be a fun, interesting ';Vegas'; thing to do. I did a bit of research and concluded that it would be either Crazy Horse of Ivan Kane%26#39;s Forty Deuce. We went with Crazy Horse from the reviews that it was good for couples, tasteful and ';artistic';. Also, Forty Deuce isn%26#39;t performing on Tuesday and Wednesday and we already had tickets for ';O'; for Thursday. It wasn%26#39;t bad, but I wouldn%26#39;t recommend it. Even at the 1/2 price ticket price. it was actually kind of boring. Very tasteful and and a couple of the dances were particularly good, but just blah for us. Not really sure what we were expecting, but it wasn%26#39;t this. i think we might try something different next time...or not...we%26#39;ll see.

    Tix4Tonite side note...

We went to the Tix4Tonite booth at Bill%26#39;s Gambling Hall at about 10:15 a.m. They had tickets for Crazy Horse so we had a decision to make. We were going to go to a craps lesson at Imperial palace at 11 a.,m. so we didn%26#39;t know if we had time to stand in line. The line outside was HUGE! The line inside for ';VIP'; customers was more reasonable, but we weren%26#39;t sure it was worth and extra $25 to be a ';VIP';. There was a woman supervising the VIP line and she explained how it worked. We stepped away from the line as we tried to decide what to do. My husband basically felt like he would rather pay full price than stand in line, but I am more of the penny-pincher and wanted to save the money. As we were standing there trying to decide what to do, the woman came over and handed us a little slip of paper and said something that made us believe that she had just comped us the VIP cost. Something like ';Well, while you%26#39;re thinking about it why don%26#39;t you take this...then you%26#39;ll have it';. Our reaction was very appreciative and we decided to go ahead and stand in the VIP line. Fortunately, my husband discovered that there was a craps lesson beginning at Bill%26#39;s at 11 so off he went. I had a lovely conversation with another woman waiting in line and then finally around 11:15 I got to the counter. I asked for tickets to Crazy Horse and was charged the VIP line fee. OH DRAT! She suckered us into thinking we were getting something for nothing. This was our first lesson in being more savvy travelers. When she handed us the little slip of paper that we thought was a complimentary VIP membership we should have asked what it was and what it would get us...oh well,we still paid less than full price and a lesson learned, but others should definitely be aware.

    O

This was our first Cirque du Soleil show and it did not disappoint. We purchased our tickets at full price the week they went on sale. After getting advice on tripadvisor I decided to get the Category 2 tickets, one row in front of Category 1. We sat in section 204, Row O, Seats 1 and 2. They were great! Definitely the right decision, we got a good view of everything on the stage....we may have missed stuff being up close. The only thing to be aware of is if you have anyone shorter than me (5%26#39;4';) the railing could be an issue for things that happen right at the front of the stage. I was not an issue for me, but it might be for anyone shorter. This show was AMAZING!!! I knew right away when the curtain was pulled away from the stage that it was going to be spectacular and it was. I don%26#39;t want to give away anything, but it was absolutely worth every penny. I had that feeling part way through the show (about an hour) where I was worried it might be over soon and I had not had enough. Unfortunately about a half hour later it did end and I still hadn%26#39;t had enough. I have heard others say they like Mystere better so I can%26#39;t wait to see that one the next time we go to Vegas.

Oops, my husband corrected me, the craps lesson at Bill%26#39;s was at 10:30 a.m.

  • O or Jersey Boys

I just booked tickets for Mystere and now I am looking to book one more show. My mother is leaving it up to me to decide. Has anyone seen both O and Jersey Boys? If so, which one would you recommend? I want to see both, but i don%26#39;t want to see 3 shows while we are there. Thanks.

    O or Jersey Boys

Not sure about Jersey Boys, but I believe most Broadway shows in Vegas are slimmed down versions of their New York show (i.e., shorter running times, songs/scenes eliminated, etc.). Therefore, if you%26#39;re anywhere near NY and can get tickets, you may be better off seeing it there. I saw it in NY and it is fantastic.

    O or Jersey Boys

They are both great shows. It comes down to what you want to see.

I would choose Jersey Boys. I have seen O and it was good but I didn%26#39;t like it as much as Mystere and Love. You are already seeing one CDS show- try something different. Jersey Boys is an excellent show.

Since you have tickets for Mystere I would pick Jersey Boys. I have seen O and Jersey Boys. I liked O but I loved Jersey Boys.

    Jersey Boys. Cirque is great and Mystere is a great show but I%26#39;d mix it up and see Jersey Boys for a Broadway type show. I haven%26#39;t seen it on Broadway and I%26#39;m sure there%26#39;s bits that were excluded in the Vegas version, but the show still runs over 2 hours including the 8 minute intermission. Previous Vegas versions of Broadway shows were pared right down to 90 minutes so I get the feeling not too much was excluded. It%26#39;s a great show that anyone of any age can enjoy. I remember walking out of the theater and as it was packed and slow getting out, an older lady in front of us turned and asked how this younger gentleman (not in my group but was walking beside us) liked the show. She was thinking that maybe younger folks wouldn%26#39;t relate to this kind of music. The guy, who was probably in his 20%26#39;s responded, ';this is my 17th time seeing the show and I%26#39;m seeing it again next month.';

I saw Jersey Boys in New York, I am going again in Las Vegas. It is a must see show.

Thanks everyone. I am definitely leaning towards Jersey Boys now. I think my mother will enjoy it.

Talk about 2 very different experiences. I enjoyed both but Jersey Boys is my second favorite Vegas show (after Love) while O is about 5th or so. Jersey Boys left more of an impression on me and kept my attention. O lost me a few times as it got a little monotonous.

Definitely Jersey Boys - especially since you are already seeing one CDS show!

They are both great. Since O and Mystere are similar in several aspects, see Jersey Boys for a different experience. Enjoy!

    TR 2/12/2009 thru 2/19/2009

1st trip report - 3rd trip to Vegas in 3 months. Hooked on Vegas. Will post as replies.

    TR 2/12/2009 thru 2/19/2009

    bring it on junkie

    TR 2/12/2009 thru 2/19/2009

2/12/09 Friday. No flight issues. To Bally%26#39;s, checked in - no problem, short wait. Off to Denny%26#39;s for lunch. No Denny%26#39;s here at home so this is the first place to hit. Background - me, hubby, and his best friend/my future husband when hubby croaks. Just kidding! Too much fun with these two.

Off to Mandalay Bay after Denny%26#39;s. The guys like to play Multi Line Black Jack and I like to wonder playing different slots.

September was our first trip together - this was on my bucket list of things to do before I keel over. So they took me - had a blast. A show each night and totally exhausted upon return home. Hubby and I went back for Christmas. Had fun. But much better when ';buddy'; with us so he helps keep hubby entertained with their games while I wonder and play my slots.

So February trip was my valentines day gift to them. Some shows, lots of slots, etc. and many, many drinks later.

Now back to the first day - after many hours of slots, drinks, black jack etc. ate at Sports book in MB - had reuben it was great! I think! Who knows at this point.

To Bally%26#39;s about 1 am, been up since 2 am Alabama time - so that%26#39;s about 25 hours. Bed calling my name.

Bally%26#39;s room was clean, beds wonderful, pillows even better. (On other visits stayed at Excalibur - like the castle theme, second visit - Flamingos - love pink flamingos after living in Florida for many years). I know it%26#39;s a girl thing! But hey, my trip so my weirdness okay. Different and unique okay - who wants to all be the same.

oops 6 months there - still think I am in Vegas with my bloody mary early this morning!

2nd day - up at 4 am vegas time - so what 3 hours sleep. Like every says, can sleep when I%26#39;m dead. Showered, off to Denny%26#39;s for breakfast. I know Denny%26#39;s - what%26#39;s up with that! Love Denny%26#39;s!

After breakfast - the guys like breakfast, I like to get lunch - so good combo here!

Off to Venetian to get cab to Fremont. 1st hit - Golden Nugget. Got players card - pixs with ';Faith'; - and who says gold isn%26#39;t a girl best friend!

Played few slots - won some for me - guys not to great.

Off to 4 Queens - had a blast! Ate at Chicago Brewing Company. It was great! Buddy is originally from Chicago. Said pizza was very close to home! Being a southern girl - we eat thin crust - but I loved it and the beer was to die for! (We are all Chicago Bears fans - DA BEARS - Yeah!)

Met some really cool folks from Minnesota - had a great adventure here!

Next - off to Fitzgerald - gambled, drank - won alittle - lost alittle.

Watched the Fremont Experience each time and still love it. Like a little kid with my mouth open! Let%26#39;s not talk about that I%26#39;m an old lady with two kids and five grandbabies. In Vegas, age isn%26#39;t a number. It%26#39;s how many hours you can go without collapsing! LOL!

During concert with the Garage Boys - danced with this really cool lady with huge red glasses - she was a hoot! Guys thought I was totally nuts - I had a blast but then when the juice gets you - you just have fun! Right? Right!

    Next - off to Binion%26#39;s/Fremont/Mermaids.

Oh my goodness, had deep fried twinkie - okay! But chocolate covered banana - awesome! Guys said I ate a hot dog but I don%26#39;t remember that one! Just remember the banana and how it can work wonders on a hubby!

Got a new ring and watched a girl with blue hair make a fool of herself! It was way too funny and I even have pixs to remember it by!

Back to Bally%26#39;s at 3 am. The guys gave me my valentines presents and boy, did I rack up!

    ';In Vegas, age isn%26#39;t a number. It%26#39;s how many hours you can go without collapsing! LOL!';

So true!! The only numbers that matter are the numbers on the pay out tickets!!!

';Guys thought I was totally nuts - I had a blast but then when the juice gets you - you just have fun! Right? Right!'; Amen, sister!!!!

';Just remember the banana and how it can work wonders on a hubby!'; I%26#39;m not going to say a word.....LMAO...

Loving your report, Asnana......You are cracking me up!!!

    3rd day - Saturday - 2/14/09 - Valentines Day.

Up at 7 am, room service with lots of coffee. Some slots - all that glitters for me - guys multi line black jack - I hit pretty good! Guys not so great!

Off to Gold Coast to eat Dim Sum at Ping Pong Pang.

It%26#39;s so neat that they push these carts around and you pick what you want. I enjoyed it! The guys were so so with it. Total bill about 30 bucks or so. But more food than you can imagine. Liked the place would do it again.

Gambled for couple of hours. Loved the Village People slot. Who cares if you win here - just love to hear the songs when you hit the bonus! The guys found ';Glenda';! OMG - they fell in love with her!

To my surprise - two old, crusty, military men who would die if they thought someone would think they are any thing but real MEN - playing Wizard of Oz!

Let%26#39;s just say - I laughed my butt off at them!

And they give me a hard time about playing slots!

Back to Bally%26#39;s. Buddy off to play black jack - hubby and I to Isihiba for supper (remember valentines day). The meal was great!

Got my second wind - off to gamble some more! Won about $300 on the ';all that glitters'; - love the bonus round - so much fun.

Guys playing black jack of course. You know man%26#39;s game - no fluffy here!

Have they forgot how much fun they had on ';Glenda';?

    To bed about 1 am.

All I can say is.....so much fun, not enough days! Can I go tomorrow?

    4th day - Sunday - 2/15/09.

    Today is my day!

This is the day that is truly on my bucket list!

Up at 7 am with lots of coffee. Hubby still in bed, me and buddy drinking coffee and laughing about yesterday and how much he likes ';Glenda';!

    Remember MILITARY man here!

    Just too funny to me!

Boy, can Vegas change a man%26#39;s box priority?

In case, you haven%26#39;t seen the email- men have boxes that they pull out one at a time and women have a multi-line circuit connection that never stop running.

After hubby%26#39;s up, showered and ready to go - off to Bally%26#39;s for Sterling Champagne Brunch!

Heard so much about it on TA that I just had to do it! Like Nike says - Just do it!

Never had Champagne before - Captain Morgan/diet coke girl here usually with occ. beer - so this was a new thing for me!

And boy - was this a good thing!

Champagne, caviar and not much else! I loved it! The guys thought it was too funny that I drank and ate much more than the $85 cost of meal. Of course, they had to have the eggs and such - what the hay?! I can eat eggs in Alabama!

In fact, at my grandma%26#39;s I collected eggs - where do they come from - a chicken%26#39;s butt!

So give me champagne and caviar any day!

After brunch - back to room for nappy - nappy - and at my house a nap is either a sleepy nappy where you actually sleep or a nappy nappy where two old people enjoy the nap.

Who knows where buddy went? Not my issue!

Then the next thing on my bucket list - off to Caesar%26#39;s to see SIR ELTON JOHN!!!!!!!!!!!!

For Christmas, buddy gave me the Elton John Red Piano CD/DVD collection - I%26#39;ve only watched it a hundred times so I was so pumped!

Red/White/Pink Boa and EJ glasses later I was sitting in my seat screaming like I was a teenager seeing the Jonas brothers for the first time!

    What an awesome concert!?!

Totally beyond my wildest dreams! Screaming my head off one minute and crying my eyes out the next!

More champagne, lots of pixs (that you have to purchase from them), and many souveniers later - I was a happy girl!

Gambled some at Caesars and the guys watched the Pussy Cat Lounge Ladies then off to ';home'; we went!

    5th day - Monday - 2/16/09

Up early as usual. Coffee and 2 tylenol this am.

Off to Flamingo to play Monte Carlo slots. Love these machines. Maraila was our cocktail waitress and she was the best. (Had Belen in December and I fell in love with her).

So if in Flamingo - hook up with these two ladies and they will make sure you have a wonderful day or night! They are johnny on the spot! And never mess your drink up!

    Way to go ladies!

On to eat breakfast--------------------where, you might ask???????????????????????????

Of course, back to Denny%26#39;s! Can I say that everyone in Denny%26#39;s knows our name by this point?

The guys had their usual eggs, etc, yuk! I had zesty nachos and they were great!

Then on to Casino Royale. The guys played black jack of course and I was on the hunt for the Village People. Gotta love YMCA!

Well, I found YMCA but I ALSO found Leann! She was the cutest cw so far. She was our daughter%26#39;s age and about the same height/weight ratio. She was a doll! Of course as a momma - you know how hard your children work to make ends meet at that age, so all her hard work was handsomely rewarded.

But of course with that being said - that meant I had a TI night! (a TI night for us - our first trip - went to TI show - guys gave me so many double captains/diet coke that I don%26#39;t remember the walk back or the many slappers that I become friends with and the huge stack of cards that I had the next morning!)

So according to the guys - ';it was raining when we left Casino Royale - we only met 2 slappers and I still managed to collect 10 cards and befriend them-

would not take a cab - and they had to ';guide'; me through the garage of Bally%26#39;s because the side walk and escalator%26#39;s were not working and there was absolutely no way in he!! that they were gonna try and get me up all those stairs!

    They also said that I was ugly to some UK guys because being the southern lady that I am - I said good evening and how are you? - they didn%26#39;t reply and being the southern lady that I am - I replied ';didn%26#39;t your momma teach you to have some manners?';

Hubby said he thought they were gonna have to take on several large guys from the UK because then I began to say ';if you can%26#39;t follow southern manners and charm then go back home';.

Well, I don%26#39;t know how much of this is true BUT I do know, being raised in the south - speak when spoken too and have manners and if not, then well, honey bless your heart!

And all southern ladies know what ';honey, bless your heart'; means!

According to guys, to bed they put me! Off to gamble for them.

All I know is....woke up about 1 am, needed restroom and some water and tylenol.

Beer and I are NOT friends - so will stick to Captain from now on!

Tomorrow - Lord, here I come! Head ache and all!

    Hahaha, great trip report!!!!

I%26#39;m not southern (in fact I suffer from the Seattle Freeze, quite the opposite). I don%26#39;t know that ';bless your little heart'; means in the south, let me know. I%26#39;ve got my own version up in the Pacific Northwest.

At my work, we have a good time and are often ';wildly inappropriate'; Good Times!!! We say it as a way to soften any blow in a joking manner, as in: ';Suzanne, is a m-fin%26#39; idiot, her mother must have dropped on on her head as a child, bless her little heart. BTW--No one I work with is named Suzanne :)

    Anybody know?

If there is a website like Priceline or Hotwire, where you can actually pick the hotel you want before submitting a bid?

If not, anyone know of curent discount codes for the Mirage? We have friends coming to town who want to stay there, trying to find them the best deal.

    Anybody know?

    www.smartervegas.com

    Anybody know?

Look direcly on the website for the mirage, they have been running a special where you get 35% off your room.

I ended up calling Mirage directly, I can get a locals discount but I would need to be the one to go check in with them, not the best option...but heh...it made me think I should talk my hubby into an overnight stay there too!

    Picking up at airport

Whats the situation with picking up at Arrivals at McCarren. Is there a short stay car park? Are you allowed to wait outside the terminal. Is it easy to get to the terminal etc.?

    Picking up at airport

Last time I picked someone up at the airport, it was a bachelor party where i had been out there for a couple days ahead of time and had a rental car.

From what I remembered, I parked in a garage that was across the drop-off lanes from the terminal. It was a very short walk over into the terminal. I think it was the short term lot so I just forked over for an hour%26#39;s parking which was fine with me.

I can%26#39;t recall if there is a %26#39;cell phone zone%26#39; where you can sit in your car away from the terminal.

The airport website has directions and details.

    Hi Robbywillie

I asked a similar question last month - some good info here :

    …tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g45963-i10-k25509…

NOTE: What I ended up doing was parking in the short term garage (bring quarters as the spaces are metered), parked on the entrance level , took the elevator down one floor and walked across to the airport, took escalator downstairs and met my friend in the baggage area.

I saw someone do this in Feb and thought wow great idea. Have them take the free shuttle to the rental car place and meet them out front there. There is parking for you righr out front next to the street free. they hop off the bus and get right into your car, No crowds, no parking garage, no traffic, in fact yall will probably be the only ones there.

    Good luck

Good place to get Mexican on the strip

I will be in Vegas April 10-April 15 and I was wondering where there is a good place to get some Mexican food that has good drinks too.

Good place to get Mexican on the strip

my favourite place for mexican is Border Grill at Mandalay Bay.

food is delicious and the drinks are amazing... great margaritas on the rocks and yummy sangria.

also, you can buy a gift certificate on restaurant.com and save yourself some money.

Good place to get Mexican on the strip

I like Isla at TI. Great food and super mojitos.

Our favorite is Taqueria Canonita in the Venetian. We make it a point to go there at least once per trip. Margs are fab, even their house ones are made with Patron. Last time we discovered that the raspberry ones were beyond delicious.

Didn%26#39;t care much for Border Grill or Isla but I know many here like them. Interested in trying Yolos and T%26amp;T next time we%26#39;re in town.

we like dos caminos at palazzo

i absolutly LOVE Border Grill! it was the best of everything ive ever had in regards to Mexican food...for dessert have the 4 half slices to get a variety of everything i loved all the desserts!

Double up on the Islas at TI.. good stuff at decent prices.

Does anyone know how many gift cerficates you can use from restaurants.com at border grill at the same time?

As an eveving meal is approx $45, I was hopeing to say get 4 certificates and save some money.

    Thanks

    Scott

Love Isla and for cheap lunch we go to La Salsa - the drinks are fabulous!

you can only use one certificate at a time. i used one when i was there last week $25 off $50

Last time we were in Vegas, we grabbed a late dinner at Yolo%26#39;s in Planet Hollywood and I was very pleasently suprised with the food. It was really fresh and tasty (the guacamole was made tableside) and four of us ate with drinks for about $100! I would definitely go back for a casual dinner.
